Brenda Song Recently Revealed Her Contemporary, Minimalist Makeup Routine—I'm Going to Imitate It All.
(Image credit: Merit) In case you missed it, Brenda Song partnered with the popular minimalist beauty brand, Merit, for a makeup tutorial. During the video, she reminisces about her Y2K beauty mistakes, her current aesthetic, and the lessons she learned from portraying London Tipton on Disney Channel. (I shouldn't have to remind anyone that Tipton was a hotel heiress and a quintessential style icon.) She also shares her experience playing Ali Lee in Netflix's Running Point. "I'm a bit more understated now," she quipped, noting that her beauty style from 2003 was vibrant—perhaps too vibrant. It's evident she sees some of her previous beauty choices as missteps. Picture a red lip, smoky eye, full contour, and what she calls "little worm" brows. "It traumatized me," she remarks. Nowadays, she favors a minimalist approach. "I like to concentrate on my skin—enhancing rather than covering up." Consequently, she utilizes just eight makeup products to accentuate her beauty, admitting, "I think I'm more Ali Lee than London Tipton." Continue reading to see her eight preferred makeup items.
MERIT
The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick in Palomino
This creamy complexion product can function as both foundation and concealer. It appears Song uses it primarily as concealer, applying it to specific areas for coverage while keeping the rest of her skin bare for a fresh appearance.
MERIT
Bronze Balm Sheer Sculpting Bronzer in Seine
Next, Song applies Merit's Bronze Balm Sheer Sculpting Bronzer in the shade Seine.
MERIT
Flush Balm Cream Blush in Cheeky
"I adore this blush because you can't really overapply it."
MERIT
Solo Shadow Cream-to-Powder Soft Matte Eyeshadow in Midcentury
"I love a one-and-done shadow. It makes such a difference."
MERIT
Brow 1990 Ultra Fine Eyebrow Gel Pencil in Brown-Black
"I have a very unique relationship with my brows," she explains. "When we filmed the pilot episode of The Suite Life, my makeup artist aimed for a more youthful look, so we did some plucking, and I ended up with little worm brows throughout my formative years. It traumatized me."
MERIT
Clean Lash Lengthening Tubing Mascara
"I struggle to find a good mascara because I have those straight Asian lashes," she says. "I avoid waterproof formulas since I don't want to scrub my eyes, which leads to wrinkles and lash loss." Merit's Clean Lash Mascara seems to be her ideal match. "A makeup artist once told me to moisturize my lashes like I do my hair, so I use a blend of avocado, castor, and coconut oil to remove my eye makeup, and I ensure I rinse it thoroughly, and I believe it has helped my lashes grow."
MERIT
Signature Lip Sheer Lip Liner in Coupé
Song uses Merit's latest product, the Signature Lip Sheer Lip Liner.
MERIT
Shade Slick Sheen High Shine Tinted Lip Oil in Pointelle
Finally, she finishes off with a swipe of this lip oil in the shade Pointelle. "That's the look," she says. "Yay me! I'll always have a little London [Tipton] in me."
