I Just Returned From Miami Swim Week—Here Are the 8 Swimwear Trends That Were Most Prominent.
I just returned from Paraiso's Miami Swim Week, and of course, I began by examining the themes that emerged on the runways. It was hard not to notice the various trends as models showcased their walks—from polka dots to beads. In addition to enjoying some sun by the ocean, sneaking in a hydrafacial at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach (which I highly recommend), and dining at Sunny's (one of my favorite spots), I dedicated five days to swimwear—attending shows back-to-back and taking notes throughout. With brands like Leslie Amon, Monday Swimwear, Montce, Oséree, and Shan, there was no shortage of collections to review. Some trends seemed expected—such as ocean themes—while others, like the prevalence of burgundy, were more unexpected. Here are the highlights I noticed repeatedly this season.
**Swim Shorts & Skirts**
I've been a fan of swim shorts and skirts for years, so it was exciting to see them featured on the runway. Both Monday Swimwear and Montce showcased them in minimalist styles that avoided an overly retro look. As someone who prefers a bit more coverage for swim bottoms, I appreciate when designers move away from standard cheeky and thong cuts. I often wear my swim skirts casually, so I love when pieces feel versatile. Brands appear to be increasingly considering that kind of functionality too. Maria Isabel Falla, the chief creative officer at Maaji, mentioned, "We're most excited about how swimwear is transcending beyond the water and into the streets. The beach-to-street trend is changing how people wear summer attire."
**Polka Dots**
Right after she walked the Cupshe runway, I asked Kelsey Anderson from Season 28 of The Bachelor about her current swim trend preference, and she expressed her enjoyment of polka dots. While this pattern has already been popular for spring and summer fashion, it's refreshing to see it making a comeback in swimwear as well.
**Hoops**
Decorative hoops may have been the most significant trend I first noticed, appearing at Cupshe, Leslie Amon, Luli Fama, Monday Swimwear, Oh Polly, and Oséree.
**Cutouts**
Cutouts were prominent this season, featuring bold shapes. Leslie Amon stated that statement cutouts are among her favorite trends this season, clearly echoed by other designers. They were prevalent at Azulu, Luli Fama, Oh Polly, and Oséree.
**Deep-V Plunges**
Deep-plunge one-pieces were presented by Leslie Amon, Monday Swimwear, Shan, and Sigal, each offering their unique take on the style.
**Beads**
A recurring detail I noticed was beading. Many shows featured bikini strings adorned with beads, with Leslie Amon and Oceanus taking it further with fully hand-beaded swimsuits.
**Ocean References**
Ocean-themed designs are always a part of Miami Swim Week. This year, I particularly liked the starfish motifs seen in embroidery, prints, and as centerpieces. Another consistent element was scolloped seashell edges at Azulu, Cupshe, Luli Fama, and Oséree.
**Noteworthy Colors**
When it comes to standout colors this season, the surprise was rich burgundy, which I spotted at Montce, Oh Polly, Oséree, and Shan. While not typically associated with swimwear or summer, it appeared very chic. Baby blue also made an appearance, a color I've previously noted my fondness for, with brands like Castañer, Cupshe, Monday Swimwear, and Oséree continuing that trend. I also loved the refined chicness of cream shades seen in collections from Leslie Amon, Monday Swimwear, Montce, Oh Polly, and Shan.
