Dressing Up for Work Is Back in Style—Here’s Why Corporate Women Are the Most Inspiring Fashion Influencers of 2025

Welcome to the Gen Z Mood, where I—Who What Wear UK's 27-year-old social media editor—share my mood of the month and the most captivating trends I've come across during my scrolling. I'm constantly searching for affordable ways to embrace styles, and I’m bringing you along for the ride.

      The Mood: Going Corporate

As a social media editor, my job involves diving into the feed to find viral trends, discerning which will gain traction and which will be forgotten. Sometimes, the impactful moments catch us off guard—who would have predicted this summer would become known as “Jet2holiday” summer? However, here we are. Alongside Jess Glyne’s viral soundbite and spoilers from The Devil Wears Prada filling my feed, there’s one fashion trend emerging that seems to encourage both Gen Z and Millennials to challenge the antiquated norms of workwear.

With a focus on innovative tailoring and finding the perfect wide-leg trousers, the choice of work attire, particularly among Gen Z and Millennials, is currently a hot topic. In the last two months, TikTok searches for “chic office outfits” have surged by 1000%, while other search terms like ‘OOTD office outfit, “corporate outfits women 2025” and “corporate girlie” are achieving impressive numbers across various platforms—not just on TikTok, but also on Instagram and Pinterest. It’s rare for a trend to thrive on all platforms, but in this case, the typical “Gen Z vs Millennial” narrative feels exhausted, as the two generations unite in the quest for a more refined office wardrobe. A prime example of this shift is the content creator known as Kat – if you’ve seen her on your feed – @katfromfinance.

I always pause my scrolling when I see social editor Naima Fatema's outfits pop up. Her work attire exudes ultimate coolness, always featuring a subtle standout piece—definitely follow her for inspiration!

@cemcoops expertly documents her work outfits on TikTok, sharing the details that keep followers coming back each week to see her current office wear. Follow her for additional workwear ideas! If you've been active on social media lately, you’ve likely noticed Kat’s high-fashion selfies against a backdrop of tan wood and a lineup of sinks. She’s the real deal—working in finance—yet she finds time between crunching numbers for lunchtime photoshoots that showcase her trendy looks (perhaps if our bathroom lighting was that good, we’d all do the same). With a growing audience of 90k across her platforms and almost a million likes on TikTok, there’s no one better to discuss this specific “corporate girlie” trend. “When I hear [the term], I imagine a successful woman who has her life together—she knows her deadlines and meets them flawlessly. She’s bright, bold, and confident, and always gets what she desires. It’s a look that fuses professionalism with a playful twist, demonstrating that you can be both powerful and feminine.”

“Over the past decade, I feel that traditional office wear has been reimagined,” she continues. “Rather than simply adhering to old standards, people now add personal touches that make classic items—like blazers—seem fresh and elevated. With innovative styling and bold accessories, conventional workwear has evolved into a canvas for self-expression. There’s been a genuine shift from blending in to standing out; today, professionalism is less about uniformity and more about individuality.”

She raises an intriguing point—how individualism has seeped into the traditionally uniform corporate world. However, there might be something deeper at play. In researching this article, I considered the notion that women, particularly younger women, are leveraging the corporate aesthetic as a means to reclaim power. This idea was discussed in our extensive autumn/winter 2025 fashion trend report, and Kat agrees this sentiment feels increasingly relevant in 2025. “I truly believe in this. I often liken dressing for work to preparing for battle—the right outfit can feel like armor,” she states. “There’s real strength in choosing how you present yourself, especially in professional environments that haven't always been considerate of women's needs. For me, power dressing not only boosts my confidence and control but also serves as a form of self-expression. Sharing those looks online fosters a sense of community—it's women supporting themselves and encouraging others to do the same.”

However, this concept isn’t entirely new—the movement actually started a few years back. The transition from post-pandemic smart casual to embracing dressing up for work felt like a natural shift after returning to the office following lockdown. Consequently, the demand for elevated work outfit inspiration has surged. Think references from Sex and the City, Suits, The Devil Wears Prada, and Scandal.
