      When I reflect on the toys that bring the most happiness to our family, the ones that stand out are those that create cherished memories and establish enjoyable family rituals—items that are always fun to use and encourage us to spend quality time together. We’ve had many rainy days constructing intricate marble runs, shared countless laughs while role-playing with our play kitchen, and developed lovely traditions reading beloved books in our cozy spot—always with warm mugs of milk in hand. The best gifts also promote independent play, which is particularly useful when I need to tackle a long list of chores around the house. Ultimately, the right toys can help children explore the world in fresh, exciting ways and provide ample opportunities for play over time.

      My children are now 4 and 7, and it feels like there’s a birthday party nearly every week, which means that along with grocery shopping and meal preparation, buying toys has nearly become a weekly routine. Fortunately, gift shopping is my forte (it's in my nature as a shopping director), and over the years, I've tried, tested, and researched a wide variety of toys—keeping an ongoing Google Doc of my favorites that have made a lasting impact on my family and others.
