Winter presents unique challenges for establishing a beauty routine. While winters in L.A. are relatively mild, my skin still becomes dehydrated more quickly, and makeup doesn’t adhere as well without extra measures. Although proper skin prep at home is essential, I’ve become somewhat high-maintenance over the past few years. Often (well, most of the time), I carry a mini drugstore in my purse. My skincare and makeup must-haves accompany me everywhere during the colder months to prevent my skin from feeling like the Sahara Desert after a few hours. If you’re looking for purse-friendly winter beauty essentials, keep reading. I’m sharing my favorite items along with the ideal bag to carry them.
COACH
Brooklyn Shoulder Bag 28
This bag is a slightly smaller version of the popular Brooklyn 39 Shoulder Bag. Don’t underestimate its size, though—it's still quite spacious and can fit a good amount of essentials. My phone, wallet, and keys fit snugly, and surprisingly, I’ve managed to fit in several winter beauty products as well. The luxurious texture and feel of this bag are evident, showcasing its excellent craftsmanship, and the minimalist design is timeless enough for me to use for years.
Dr. Althea
345 Relief Cream
The viral K-beauty brand Dr. Althea is celebrated for this rich, hydrating cream, which has proven to be an essential winter skincare item to have on hand. I appreciate its unique ointment-gel hybrid consistency, which is not too heavy for my acne-prone skin. It calms redness and irritation, thanks to soothing ingredients like centella asiatica extract and panthenol. I keep it with me while running errands for an extra moisture boost on my dehydrated skin, or I use it as a hand cream.
PURA D'OR
Organic Rosehip Seed Oil
My wonderful organic aesthetician friend, Katie Sobelman, sent me this oil recently, and I was so impressed that it quickly became a staple in my routine. This is one of several products from the brand that she shared, and we’re both amazed by the high quality of the oils at this price point. This 100% pure rosehip seed oil is very affordable, providing all-day hydration for my skin. While I love the four-ounce bottle for just $15, I wish it came in a smaller size for easier carrying in my purse.
Aestura
Atobarrier 365 Moisturizing Cream Mist
Another K-beauty favorite I always have with me is Aestura's Cream Mist. It’s incredibly refreshing and perfect for winter, thanks to its hydrating ceramides and a triple lipid complex. I love that it can be used over makeup, which is a game-changer since makeup sometimes dries out my skin as the temperature drops.
If I could only choose one eye cream for life, it would be Dieux's Auracle Eye Serum. I’ve tried many eye creams in my career but always find myself returning to this one. It’s exceptionally hydrating, effectively reduces dark circles and puffiness, and smooths fine lines around the eyes. Plus, it works quickly, which I appreciate in an eye product.
Florence by Mills
Stay Plush Serum Infused Lip Oil Tint
This has become one of my go-to products over the past few weeks. With L.A.'s recent dry weather, nothing keeps my lips hydrated quite like this new lip oil from Florence by Mills. I picked it up at a recent event, and my expectations were low since I own many other lip oils, but this formula feels fantastic with avocado and coffee seed oil. It’s not sticky and offers a perfect pop of color on the lips—a true winter essential.
Anastasia Beverly Hills
Microstroke Detailing Brow Pen
The original Brow Wiz from ABH has been a longtime favorite of mine, so I was eager to try this new pen from the brand. It truly impressed me. I use it lightly since it’s quite pigmented, but it applies beautifully, creating realistic, feather-like "hairs" that make my brows look naturally full and defined. It’s also super easy to work with and can be easily adjusted if needed. I carry it in my purse for touch-ups, although it’s so long-lasting that I usually don’t have to. It’s quickly become my favorite brow pen ever, though I wish I had chosen a lighter shade, as the dark brown I got is slightly bold for me.
Catrice
HD Liquid Coverage Foundation
This viral foundation has been on my radar for years, but it was always sold out when I tried to get it. I finally managed to buy it recently and couldn't believe it’s only $10. The coverage it provides is phenomenal—you need very little product to cover your entire face. It gives an airbrushed appearance, smoothing out visible pores and texture. My only complaint is that the dropper
