I’m Eager to Imitate Selena Gomez’s Romeo + Juliet Manicure—It Evokes 1996 in the Most Wonderful Way.

      I connect Selena Gomez with a signature manicure—one that embodies simplicity and sophistication. Recently, she has showcased an expensive-looking "peach champagne" shade as well as a classic cherry-red hue. As a beauty editor, I genuinely appreciate these elegant nail designs. However, she has recently unveiled a new set of nails that is quite the opposite of minimalistic. It's bold, extravagant, intricate, and evokes memories of Romeo + Juliet—not Shakespeare's original play from 400 years ago, but rather Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film featuring Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio. If you know, you know. Celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik crafted this stunning manicure, which incorporates the visually striking colors and motifs from the 1996 film. The palette features shades of blood red, romantic pink, and pristine white, embellished with sparkling nail gems, a Sacred Heart symbol, and shimmering hints of gold. Just looking at it reminds me of the swelling orchestral music and Leo's soulful, tear-filled gaze.

      As someone who A) repeatedly watched Romeo + Juliet in my teenage years (I still keep a VHS copy stored away), and B) collects nail designs as if it were my profession (because it is), I’m completely captivated by this intricate detail. Oh, my millennial heart!

      I'd love to flaunt this manicure at any occasion, but it feels particularly suited for the holidays and/or Valentine's Day (you can expect to see me recreating this on February 14). My usual minimalist styles are out; this maximalist manicure is definitely in. In an Instagram post, Bachik mentioned that he utilized Tweezerman products, Aprés colors, and his own Click Colors nail polishes. While replicating this manicure at home might be challenging, I plan to either book a salon appointment soon or attempt to achieve a similar look with press-ons and/or nail gems.
