My skin is currently in its "Maintenance Era"—here are the products that are helping me through treatment season.
As soon as the temperature falls below 40ºF, the wind feels like it's making an effort to remove every dead skin cell from my body, and my face completely rebels against my skincare routine. This time of year signals to me that it's time to switch to maintenance mode. Winter becomes the season where I schedule every possible treatment—lasers, light therapy, peels—anything to maintain a vibrant complexion while the outside world appears dull, and the combination of sun and heat won’t interfere with my recovery. However, what many don't mention is that treatment season can feel like a part-time job. There's redness, tightness, peeling, and the whole "don’t sweat, don’t drink, don’t touch your face" ordeal. While I appreciate the outcomes, I want to ensure I'm not wasting a moment (or a dollar) on my efforts. Hence, I enter full winter survival mode, arming myself with products that safeguard my barrier, soothe irritation, accelerate healing, and keep my skin radiant even when it's going through a tough time. These are the products that truly help me navigate the winter treatment challenge while keeping my face at its best, brightest, and healthiest. Keep reading!
**Laser Genesis**
During this period, I religiously schedule monthly Laser Genesis sessions with Eric Nietzel-Leone II from I Wanna Be Prettty. Laser Genesis is my go-to cold-weather safety net: It enhances collagen production, soothes redness, smooths skin texture, and provides that radiant glow winter tries hard to steal. He personally suggests these four products to aid healing, enhance brightness, and prolong that post-laser glow as much as possible.
**Rejuran Dual Effect Ampoule with c-PDRN**
"Post-laser products must do two things: avoid trapping heat and support your skin barrier during the healing process. This formula excels at both. It's rich in growth factors that accelerate cell turnover, rebuild the barrier, and add a touch of brightness, making it a fantastic companion for any laser treatment."
**CeraVe Healing Ointment**
"A quality post-procedure ointment must excel in protection without clogging pores. This one is non-comedogenic, locking in moisture and shielding healing skin without leading to congestion. After most laser or resurfacing procedures, your skin is quite susceptible to environmental harm, which is why an over-the-counter occlusive like this is crucial. It creates a breathable barrier while your skin rebuilds its defenses. Plus, it’s lanolin-free, avoiding a common allergen that may cause unnecessary irritation during such a vulnerable time."
**Ourself HA+ Replenishing Serum**
"This product operates as a three-in-one treatment—combining peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C to repair, brighten, and plump the skin. The brand’s unique HA technology penetrates deeper and more gradually than traditional hyaluronic acids, facilitating collagen and elastin production over time. It's one of the few serums that truly complements any laser treatment by enhancing glow while your skin repairs itself."
**Alastin Skincare Regenerating Skin Nectar**
"Formulated for post-procedure care, it supports the skin's natural cell turnover. A distinct blend of peptides works to eliminate old, damaged cells and pave the way for new ones. This product also diminishes laser-associated redness, making it excellent for treating sunburns by preventing the collagen breakdown caused by burns and more."
**MOXI or BBL Laser**
I also seek out Lisa Goodman at GoodSkin Clinics for more intensive laser sessions, where she emphasizes that proper healing post-laser is crucial to achieving the best results. After procedures, she recommends the following for effective recovery.
**RMED Skincare Renewal EGF Serum**
"This serum is ideal post-laser for repairing the barrier and hastening healing, thanks to its biomimetic epidermal growth factors and next-generation probiotic ferment. It contains no silicones or harsh occlusives, making it suitable for acne-prone skin. Laser treatments can sometimes lead to minor inflammation, which may result in breakouts."
**Celluma LED Light Therapy**
"I swear by the Celluma Pro Laser, the only FDA-approved red light therapy device. I utilize it for hair and body aches, plus it aids in rejuvenating treated skin."
**EltaMD UV Daily Tinted SPF 40 Face Sunscreen Moisturizer with Zinc Oxide**
"After laser procedures, I ensure my skin is protected with a gentle SPF. This EltaMD sunscreen is physical (zinc-based) and formulated for sensitive skin."
**Microneedling**
With the sun out of the picture, I’m fully utilizing the opportunity to undergo several microneedling sessions at Contor Studio with cofounder and owner Brad Crerar. Brad emphasizes the importance of hydration and cleanliness following this treatment, and rightfully so. Microneedling leaves the skin temporarily exposed, meaning what you
