Step aside, Samba and Speedcat—this striking new Nike sneaker style has Londoners divided between love and hate.

I reside in South West London, so I am deeply entrenched in the city’s fashion vibe. During a quick outfit assessment, I can immediately recognize the subtle differences among various boroughs, generally noting that some areas lean towards a more classic, hipster, or preppy aesthetic. However, one aspect that I believe all Londoners (whether born here, residing here, or honorary) take very seriously is their choice of sneakers. In my youth, every trendsetter had a pair of Nike Air Force 1s to flaunt, but in recent years, Adidas Sambas have taken the spotlight, soon to be followed by an explosion of colorful Puma Speedcats in 2025. Now, there's a strong new competitor emerging in the form of Nike Shox Z, the latest iteration of Nike Shox that seems to be popping up everywhere I look.

It may be a cliché, but it's true that Londoners are always on the go, which makes us experts in choosing the right footwear. That said, this doesn't mean we all agree on what sneakers are considered stylish or trendy, and opinions on Nike Shox are certainly divided. The futuristic design features a distinctive raised heel made from impact-absorbing columns, providing both added height and a literal bounce in each step due to the innovative cushioning system, though it may not appeal to everyone.

Even if this unconventional design isn't your style, one can appreciate how Nike has integrated innovation into each pair to enhance the comfort for the wearer. Personally, I adore Nike Shox trainers, and I'm not alone in reminiscing about the era of Lily Allen’s "LDN" circa 2006 to style them. I’m noticing others in the fashion scene and beyond pairing trainers with dresses and skirts, alongside tracksuits and jeans, to elevate their outfits whether they're working, Lime-biking, partying, attending football matches, or engaging in various activities. The Nike Shox Z is a timely update of the original Nike Shox trainers—I had a silver and pink pair myself—that rose to fame and eventually faded in the early-to-mid 2000s. This particular design feels nostalgic and perfectly aligns with early 2026 trainer trend forecasts indicating that chunky styles are currently on the back burner, with the Nike x Martine Rose Shox MR4 mules being a bold exception (which is also in my collection) keeping the hybrid sneaker trend alive. Bold surface details and captivating colors are taking center stage, and as of my last count, there are at least 10 different colorways of the Nike Shox Z. Personally, I believe the two-tone and iridescent versions, particularly the black-and-red design, make the strongest impression.

Even without my personal experience, the shift towards modern and vintage Nike Shox styles is logical. They create an interesting visual clash that showcases your individuality and helps you stand out in a sneaker-enthusiast city, while also cleverly tapping into yet another emerging shoe trend for 2026. The new Z Shox model is sleeker and more low-profile compared to the TL and R4 styles, giving these trainers a mini-wedge appearance. In contrast to other wedge sneakers attempting to evoke nostalgia for the 2010s, the cut-out design keeps them cool rather than "ugly." Take it from someone who inadvertently became a sneakerhead: among all the Nike Shox styles currently winning hearts and wallets, the Z is definitely the one to choose. Though the cost-per-wear ratio of each style may be effective, the silhouette and color combos of the Nike Shox Z appear the most effortless, surpassing the others in my view. Scroll down to see and shop my selection of Nike Shox Z trainers. I'm still deliberating on my favorite.
