Sheer and illusion gowns have become consistent headline-makers on those museum steps, largely thanks to Cher. In 1974, she created quite a buzz by wearing a sequined Bob Mackie piece to the event. Today, while the trend may not be as controversial as in the past, it remains unforgettable.
