I say this without any exaggeration: Every time I apply this Hourglass foundation, at least one person compliments my skin. "Your skin looks so smooth," "You're literally glowing," "Your skin is perfect"—you get the idea. I always appreciate these remarks (the highest form of praise for a beauty editor!), but they resonate even more when my skin isn't at its best.
For example, I recently had a severe reaction to a new product (the downside of being a constant test subject!), leading to flaky, congested skin for several weeks. However, just one thin layer of this foundation and all my textural worries vanish—at least for the day—so much so that even my husband believed my complexion had miraculously healed overnight. Quite the trick!

**The Formula: Smoothing with 12-Hour Wear**
The foundation provides medium coverage and a beautifully luminous finish (true to its name), unlike the brand's Veil Hydrating Skin Tint, which is dewy yet sheer, or its Ambient Soft Glow Foundation, which offers medium coverage but lacks the same glow. It contains advanced hydra-smoothing technology with hyaluronic microspheres to visibly plump fine lines and refine texture, plus SPF 30 for additional sun protection—a welcome extra!
I believe it’s the hydra-smoothing technology that helps the foundation immediately conceal every imperfection on my face. Honestly, as soon as I blend it into my skin, all my breakout issues disappear. And I’m not the only one: In a clinical study conducted by the brand, 93% of participants reported that the foundation instantly minimized the appearance of imperfections and rendered their skin smoother. The formula also boasts impressive long-wear—12 hours to be precise—without creasing or flaking throughout the day. I can personally vouch for this benefit; Illusion Luminous Glow is one of the rare foundations that can withstand a full day in the office, including various late-night work events, and still look just as flawless as it did at 8 a.m.
**The Application: Creamy and Even**
Regarding texture, it’s creamy and blendable but thicker than a skin tint (which tends to be more lightweight and serum-like), so a little goes a long way. In fact, I only need a pearl-sized amount for my entire face, which I place on the back of my hand, warm it up with Hourglass's Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Brush, and then buff it into my skin for even, minimal coverage. It merges with my skin beautifully and leaves behind a radiant glow. That said, this might not be the best choice for those with oily skin looking to reduce shine. It's extremely dewy, but I personally love the glassy finish for my combination, perpetually thirsty skin.

As you might guess, I rate this foundation a 1000/10. I've been using it regularly since its January launch (in shade 4, if you’re interested), and it’s become my secret weapon for dull skin days. Yes, it’s maximally glowy, yet somehow it never makes me appear sweaty—just perfectly fresh and dewy. My favorite aspect, however, is how it instantly smooths my skin texture while looking entirely natural, as if I’m not wearing any makeup at all. I usually pair it with just a hint of blush, brow gel, and my go-to lip combination (note: no concealer!), so I could easily fool people into thinking, yes, I really did wake up like this.
