Editors Often Gatekeep This Bikini Brand—4 Outfits I Tried On and Need to Discuss
At Who What Wear, we are convinced that the time for fashion gatekeeping has come to an end. Therefore, we are revealing some of the fashion industry's best-kept secrets—beginning with the bikini brand that occupies a spot in every fashion editor's wardrobe: Monday Swimwear. Founded by content creators turned business owners Natasha Oakley and Devin Brugman, Monday Swimwear has garnered a devoted following in the industry due to its exceptional emphasis on fit, quality, and timeless aesthetics. It stands out as one of the few brands that prioritize size inclusivity above all. Its bikinis—including the signature Amalfi top and universally flattering bottoms—are available in sizes ranging from "Petite Petite" to "Very Very Voluptuous." To further its commitment to accommodating all body types, the brand recently unveiled a Small Band, Large Cup collection (fits 28" to 34" underbust and DD to G cup), providing new options for those with smaller frames and larger busts in three of its top-selling underwire swimwear styles.
The offerings don't stop at bikinis and one-pieces; the brand presents a complete vacation wardrobe. You can find lightweight drawstring pants for layering over swimsuits, a structured straw tote that adds sophistication to any look, versatile sarongs that can be worn tied around the waist or as tops, crochet mini and maxi dresses suitable for both beach and bar, and eye-catching earrings that showcase your style.
Drawing inspiration from Oakley's Australian roots and Brugman's Californian background, the duo has blended elements from both regions into their brand. This combination merges the laid-back Californian style with the sun-kissed coastal flair typical of Australian fashion, resulting in pieces featuring surf-inspired textures, earthy tones, and contemporary touches that are perfect for both the beach and city life. Since 2014, Monday Swimwear has cultivated a solid and reliable reputation within the market. This success has allowed the brand to extend its direct-to-consumer presence from online platforms to physical storefronts, beginning in Los Angeles and recently adding a location in New York City. As a resident of NYC who had yet to try the brand, I made it a point to visit the Monday Swimwear NYC store within a week of its opening to check it out for myself.

What I Tried On

My Review: The summer hasn't even kicked off yet, and I'm already enamored with the idea of wearing sarongs (they need to be large, though) in creative ways. That's why, upon entering the store and spotting the Marina Piccola in a refined brown-and-white print, I knew I had to try it on first. I decided to wear it as a strapless top and paired it with the Tahiti pants, a lightweight and comfortable style that can be dressed up or down. While these pieces look stylish together, their versatility allows for countless styling opportunities beyond what’s shown. I can easily envision wearing the Piccola as a skirt over a white bikini or teaming the Tahiti pants with a chic tank top and kitten heels. Both items fit true to size; however, petite individuals should note that the pants are on the longer side.

My Review: If you know me, you understand I'm not usually one for bright colors. I tend to stick primarily to black, white, and various shades of beige. Thus, you may be surprised to learn why I chose to try on and fell in love with this light-blue crochet dress and matching bikini. The honest answer is the recommendations from the store associates at Monday Swimwear. They didn't merely suggest it; they strongly encouraged me to try the whole outfit. To my own surprise, I adored the look, and I think the light blue actually complements my fair skin and dirty-blonde hair.
Beyond the color, what really impressed me was the fit and quality of the Montego dress. I have always been doubtful of crochet dresses due to their often heavier and less flattering fabric; however, this one was entirely different. It was light and draped beautifully. The bikini underneath also fit perfectly, providing both support and comfort. Both pieces run true to size.

My Review: A linen ensemble, regardless of whether it’s a bralette and trousers or a button-down shirt and pants, is an essential for any fashion editor's summer wardrobe. The lightweight, breathable fabric is ideal for scorching hot days, and the effortless nature of a matching set allows for stylish dressing with minimal effort.
