Lauren Harwell Godfrey, the innovative jewelry designer and founder of Harwell Godfrey, exemplifies the essence of fearless transformation. Today, her fine jewelry label is acknowledged by notable personalities such as former Vice President Kamala Harris and international sensation Rihanna, yet her journey to discovering her passion in the fashion realm was not straightforward.
Harwell Godfrey initially embarked on her career in the advertising sector of San Francisco. Beginning as an intern, she worked her way up over 15 years to become a creative director, developing campaigns for prominent brands like Adidas, Levi's, and Ray-Ban. Despite the creative nature of her work, she experienced a profound sense of artistic dissatisfaction. In search of a more fulfilling path, she made a daring career change and enrolled in culinary school.
Upon graduation, Harwell Godfrey dove into the culinary world, working at esteemed restaurants such as the iconic Chez Panisse and Bar Tartine. She also created a vegan food blog and contributed to several cookbooks. However, after some time, she came to the realization that the restaurant industry was not her true passion. Undeterred, she shifted her focus once more, this time to jewelry. What started as a personal pursuit—crafting pieces for herself and her close circle—quickly grew into something more substantial. In 2017, she officially launched her fine jewelry brand, Harwell Godfrey.
Since its inception, the brand has thrived. Harwell Godfrey now has a flagship store in Northern California and has broadened its presence to retailers nationwide. Impressively, Harwell Godfrey remains the sole designer, ensuring complete creative control. By maintaining the business independently, she has protected the brand's distinctive identity and integrity while establishing a national footprint.
