Whitney Leavitt's Marchesa gown for the Tony Awards exceeded her most extravagant dreams.

Completing an extraordinary, record-breaking stint as Roxie Hart in the Broadway musical Chicago, Whitney Leavitt made an appearance at last night's 79th annual Tony Awards, reaffirming her star power and the audience's admiration. Before delivering one final performance of Roxie Hart in a spectacular opening number celebrating the musical's 30th anniversary, Leavitt dazzled on the Tonys' navy-blue carpet in an exquisite Marchesa gown that left everyone in awe. For her first major red carpet event, it was a flawless execution.

Paying homage to Old Hollywood glamour, the Marchesa design showcased a '50s-inspired silhouette, featuring a blush tulle skirt and a sculptural black bodice. The strapless neckline beautifully complemented Leavitt's 19th-century Fred Leighton jewels, including a mine-cut diamond necklace and earrings, while her polished, slicked-back bun drew inspiration from Audrey Hepburn. The overall look was incredibly elegant. After the event, Leavitt shared exclusive fashion and beauty insights with Who What Wear.

Initially, what vision or mood did you have in mind for your Tony Awards red carpet appearance? It was such an honor to attend the Tony Awards, my first major award show! From the beginning, I envisioned an outfit inspired by vintage styles that celebrated Old Hollywood. I specifically wanted a stunning neckline that could be enhanced with jewelry for a classy touch. My fantastic stylist Eliza Yerry and I collaborated closely to bring this vision to life, which felt like a dream. One of the evening's most unexpected moments was meeting Georgina Chapman, who kindly approached me to thank me for wearing one of her beautiful designs and offered some sweet words. I was genuinely astonished and deeply touched. It was one of those unforgettable serendipitous moments.

Now, tell us about the look you ultimately chose and what you love about it. Marchesa, wow! It surpassed anything I had imagined! I adore the structure and interplay of textiles. The dress's silhouette reflects the styles of the 1950s and '60s, just as I had hoped. We paired it with 19th-century Fred Leighton jewels that took it to another level and added some edge. Any references to Roxie Hart? Wearing diamonds is always a nod to Roxie Hart! After spending so much time in her world, I associate her with a little extra sparkle. Roxie embodies glamour and confidence, making diamonds the ideal way to channel that spirit.

What is your personal philosophy on red carpet dressing? I believe fashion should be enjoyable, but I always want to feel authentic and wear looks that reflect who I am. As a mom, I seize the chance on the red carpet to truly go all out; I love making a statement while ensuring it still feels like me. I'm always aiming for elegance and sophistication with a modern twist.

What’s a great styling tip you’ve learned recently? I’ve concluded that the key lies more in how you wear something than in what you wear. What does your typical skincare prep look like before a red carpet event? The night before a significant event, I always use a collagen face mask. Experiment’s Molecular Mesh Moisturizer is a real game changer. Hydration is essential!

What was the direction for your glam look? Did you and your team have any specific references? I knew I wanted an updo to showcase the dress's neckline, and I generally prefer softer makeup. We aimed for an Old Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn-inspired aesthetic.

You've just wrapped your record-breaking run as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Reflecting back, what moment stands out to you? Being on Broadway exceeded my wildest dreams, and I’ll always be grateful to this amazing community for welcoming me. One of the most significant moments of my run was being able to bring my kids to the theater and onto the stage during rehearsals. Performing as Roxie Hart was a dream fulfilled, but sharing that experience with my family made it even more special. I always want to demonstrate to them that it’s okay to dream big and pursue things that may feel daunting or out of reach.

With your dreams coming true, what’s next? Exciting developments are in the works at Leavitt Media House! We are currently working on some new projects and can’t wait to share more soon.
