Whitney Leavitt's Marchesa gown for the Tony Awards exceeded her wildest dreams.

Whitney Leavitt's Marchesa gown for the Tony Awards exceeded her wildest dreams.

Capping off an amazing, record-setting performance as Roxie Hart in the Broadway musical Chicago, Whitney Leavitt attended the 79th annual Tony Awards last night, reaffirming her star power and the audience’s admiration. Before taking the stage for her final performance as Roxie Hart in a spectacular opening act honoring the musical's 30th anniversary, Leavitt dazzled on the Tonys' navy-blue carpet in a stunning Marchesa gown that left everyone in awe. For her first major red carpet event, it was perfect scores all around. Embracing Old Hollywood elegance, the Marchesa design featured a '50s-inspired silhouette with a blush tulle skirt and sculptural black bodice. The strapless neckline beautifully showcased Leavitt's 19th-century Fred Leighton jewels, including a mine-cut diamond necklace and earrings, while her polished, sleek bun was inspired by Audrey Hepburn. The overall appearance was incredibly elegant. After the event, Leavitt shared all the fashion and beauty insights exclusively with Who What Wear.

Firstly, what was your vision or mood for your Tony Awards red carpet appearance? It was truly an honor to attend and participate in the Tony Awards, my first significant awards show! From the beginning, I envisioned a vintage-inspired look that paid tribute to Old Hollywood. I specifically wanted a stunning neckline that could be highlighted with jewelry for a classy touch. My amazing stylist Eliza Yerry is very collaborative, and we worked together on this vision. It was a dream to see it materialize. One of the most unexpected moments of the evening was meeting Georgina Chapman. She kindly approached me to express her gratitude for wearing one of her exquisite designs and shared some lovely words. I was genuinely surprised and deeply moved. It felt like one of those special, serendipitous moments that you never forget.

Tell us about the final look you chose and what you love about it. Marchesa—oh my goodness! It exceeded anything I had imagined! I adore the structure and the combination of fabrics. The dress's silhouette resembles those worn in the 1950s and '60s, exactly what I was aiming for. We paired it with 19th-century Fred Leighton jewels, which further elevated the look and added some edge. Any references to Roxie Hart? Wearing diamonds is always a nod to Roxie Hart! After spending so much time in her world, I connect a little extra sparkle with her. Roxie is glam and confident, so diamonds felt like the ideal way to channel that energy.

What is your philosophy on dressing for the red carpet? I believe fashion should be enjoyable, but I always want to feel like myself and wear looks that reflect who I am. Especially as a mom, I love using the red carpet as a chance to go all out and make a statement, but it always needs to feel true to me. I'm always searching for elegant, sophisticated styles with a modern twist.

What is a great styling trick you've learned recently? I've realized that the key lies more in how you wear something than in what you wear. What does your typical skincare prep look like before a red carpet event? The night before a big occasion, I always use a collagen face mask. The Molecular Mesh Moisturizer from [Experiment] is also a game changer. Hydration is crucial!

What was the direction for your glam look? Did you and your team reference anything specific? I knew I wanted an updo to accentuate the dress's neckline, and I typically prefer softer makeup. We aimed for an Old Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn-inspired aesthetic.

You just concluded your record-setting run as Roxie Hart in Chicago. Looking back, what moment from your time stands out the most? Being on Broadway was beyond my wildest dreams. I will always be thankful to this incredible community for welcoming me. One of the most significant moments during my run was bringing my kids to the theater and having them on stage during rehearsals. Performing as Roxie Hart was a dream fulfilled, but sharing that experience with my family made it even more meaningful. I want to show them that it's okay to dream big and pursue things that might seem intimidating or out of reach.

Your wildest dreams are coming true! What’s next for you? Exciting things are underway at Leavitt Media House! We are currently working on new projects and can’t wait to share more soon.
