I'm a Minimalist Fashion Editor—Here's Everything I Bring for My Summer Getaways.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert in many areas—"jack of all trades, master of none" is more accurate. However, packing? That's my forte. Having lived out of a suitcase for the last two years, moving between Miami, Lisbon, London, and Toronto (yes, I know I'm fortunate), I've honed the skill of assembling a case that stays under the weight limit and includes items I A) will actually wear, and B) can style in various ways to avoid boredom. Minimalist styling is crucial for making this work, especially when using a carry-on.

The trick is to choose pieces that can be styled multiple ways. A silk slip dress that can also function as a skirt. A linen shirt that easily transitions from beach to restaurant. Flip flops that are just as suitable at the pool as they are while exploring the city for ice cream.

What grants pieces a mix-and-match quality often hinges on color and curating a selection that adheres to a cohesive palette. For me, that palette consists of neutrals: creams and browns with hints of black and blue. Your choice might involve khaki and navy or strictly black and white. The essence remains: select shades that blend effortlessly without requiring too much thought.

Additionally, you want items that can adapt to different occasions. While denim shorts might be liberating by the beach, if, like me, you'd rather not sport them at dinner, reserve space for a longer option that is suitable even for a fancier restaurant. And don’t think that a small suitcase and minimalist packing means boring outfits. Sequins, animal prints, and vibrant accessories can add plenty of personality to an ensemble. You are on holiday, after all.

15 Minimalist Fashion Finds I Always Bring on Holiday:

      Toteme

      Curved Rib Tank Black

I have six of these tank tops in various shades—purchased during the Net-a-Porter sale at half price—and they serve as the foundation for 60% of my outfits.

      Chloé

      Logo Aviator Sunglasses in Brown

My girlfriend and I rarely have conflicts, but we've had full wrestling matches over who wears these sunglasses. They elevate every outfit significantly.

      STAUD

Ainsley Asymmetric Lace-Trimmed Cotton-Voile Maxi Skirt

An asymmetrical hem adds just enough flair to make an outfit feel thoughtfully composed. Pair it with flip flops, a simple tank top, and a belt for a more laid-back look.

Chocolate Brown Round Toe Leather Thong

I’ll be honest—the first three times I wore these flip flops, they caused some rubbing. After two summers, they're the most comfortable shoes I own. Breaking them in gradually is key.

      Massimo Dutti

      Linen Strapless Midi Dress

The goal of minimal effort with maximum impact is essential while on holiday, and a strapless white dress achieves just that. To inject some personality, wear it with a large earring.

The jury might still be out on whether these are truly minimalist, but I'm a strong proponent of having some fun with fashion (and they are technically monochrome). While my mules are cow print, this zebra pair provides an unexpected burst of personality that's also easy to style.

      With Nothing Underneath

The Set: Hemp Periwinkle Blue Shirt & Boxer

You might think of shirts as strictly workwear, but they are incredibly versatile holiday staples. Wear this one with the matching shorts, white jeans, a sequin skirt, or casually over a bikini.

      COS

      V-Neck Midi Cami Dress

One of the best ways to maximize outfits from a small carry-on is to include dresses that can be styled in various ways. Layer this one under a boho blouse, with a tank top and belt, or wear it alone for three distinct looks.

If there’s one brand that instantly evokes summer memories for me, it’s Éliou. Whether worn long, short, or wrapped around your wrist, ankle, or bag handle as a charm, it adds a splash of color to an all-neutral outfit.

      Arket

Pure Cotton Balloon Trousers in Khaki

Balloon trousers give any outfit a relaxed vibe. I find that a classic tank top, flip flops, and sunglasses look particularly stylish together.

      HUNZA G

      Julia Hoop Crinkle Bikini

Hunza G bikinis are designed to stretch to fit your body, and after four summers, mine is still in great shape. Though I would definitely swap my bandeau style, which tends to roll down, for this classic bra shape.

      H&M

      Tailored Bermuda Shorts

Denim cut-offs are trendy, but their styling options are fairly limited. However, longer linen shorts can be worn to the beach with flip flops and a bikini top or to dinner with mules and a black tank top.

      ISABEL MARANT

      Lonny Leather Belt

This belt, while a bit tricky to use, greatly enhances any outfit
