      Finally, the sun has pierced through the clouds, and it truly feels like spring is approaching. Now we enter the seasonal transition. The first item on my spring shopping list is a light jacket. While my dependable trench coat is a safe choice, I'm excited to consider Toteme's new Summer Country Jacket (£600) for a more modern touch. (Image credit: @florriealexander)

      As soon as this new Toteme design arrived, I rushed to try it on (before it inevitably sells out like previous much-coveted jackets from the brand), and I'm here to share my thoughts on whether it’s a worthwhile investment if you're thinking about getting one for yourself. Spoiler: I was truly impressed by the jacket’s minimalist design, timeless style, and meticulous attention to detail.

(Image credit: @florriealexander) When the trend for country jackets emerged last year, I hesitated to purchase one because I hadn't found a style that could transition from brisk autumn days to chilly spring mornings. Now that I've discovered this jacket, I'm glad I waited. The lightweight, water-repellent cotton construction allows for layering during cooler times, and I'm looking forward to wearing it later in the season on warmer days when a t-shirt and jacket are all that's required.

      The creamy hue enhances any outfit, giving it an upscale feel, and it's adaptable enough to match everything from classic neutrals to vibrant colors. Moreover, after several seasons of being the must-know jacket style, I'm confident that country jackets are here to stay.

      Upon trying it on, I noticed that the distinct details and exceptional quality distinctly differentiate this jacket from others available in the market. The brown corduroy collar adds a touch of luxury, and the welt and flap pockets echo traditional country-jacket elements. However, the wide cuffs and generally minimalistic design maintain a contemporary flair. While style is an essential factor in any purchase, I also value practicality, and the combination of a zip front and snap buttons, along with the water-repellent fabric, ensures you'll stay warm and dry even in spring showers.

At a height of 5'2" and typically a size 8 on top, I tend to choose jackets in a size 10 for a more relaxed look. The back vents help retain the jacket's straight silhouette while allowing movement ease. One thing I’ve noticed with Toteme jackets is that the sleeves tend to be on the longer side. Personally, I welcome this, as I like the oversized style, which adds a certain edge, but since it’s made from cotton, it would be easy to shorten the sleeves if desired.

      It’s no surprise that I'm not the only admirer of Toteme's country jacket. I've already spotted influencers and editors donning the khaki-green variation, and I'm sure the new cream version will gain similar popularity with the arrival of spring. With my fellow Who What Wear UK editors also keeping it on their radar (we can’t stop discussing it at our desks), I suspect it will sell out before the season truly kicks off.
