I’m really into TikTok micro-trends—here are 6 items I’m buying for spring.

To me, the real "in" thing is whatever makes you feel good and reflects your individual taste—something that endures rather than just follows the latest fad. That being said, I enjoy exploring TikTok for micro-trends. Rather than looking to the runways for inspiration, I find it intriguing to observe the trends niche influencers are establishing within their own online spaces. I've gained some of my best fashion insights from TikTok—whether it’s discovering "medieval weirdcore" or learning that ponchos are back in style. Recently, I’ve noticed many trends like jerseys, Hunter rain boots, bangles, "fisherman aesthetic" outfits, colorful tights, crochet, and iridescent fabrics. I never thought I'd see a resurgence of boat shoes, which were a major trend back in Boston where I grew up. Here are the micro-trends I'm excited to incorporate into my spring wardrobe, from polka dots to plaid.

      **Polka Dots**

      Polka dots are a classic print for me—elegant, timeless, and perpetually stylish—though I realize they can be polarizing.       To me, clogs have evolved beyond a mere trend, yet they're everywhere on my For You page. If you're in New York, you've probably noticed the buzz around the Salter House Opana Mules. For a time, it felt like I couldn't walk a block without encountering them—it was almost humorous. On TikTok, they were dubbed the "I live in Brooklyn" shoes. As the clog trend persists, I’d like to suggest some alternatives.

      **Cropped Trenches**

      If you’re on TikTok, you might relate. Whenever I think of trench coats, I automatically recall the trending sound that references "trench coat buttoned to the top" (thanks to Lily-Rose Depp). Recently, women have used this sound to showcase their coats paired with ballet flats. The newest rendition of the trench coat has surprisingly been cropped.       The Havaianas square-toe sandal trend last year helped many of us overcome our hesitations about flip-flops. Now, I’m witnessing an unexpected phenomenon—an influx of platform flip-flops.

      The days of plaid being solely linked to school uniforms and Scottish kilts are behind us. When I think of plaid, I initially picture Vivienne Westwood and Burberry, but brands like Guizio and Chopova Lowena have now embraced the print.
