I’m 29, my sister is 25, and my mom is 62—we all adore this "divinely sophisticated" fragrance.
All three of our perfume bottles (Image credit: @kaitlyn_mclintock) As a beauty editor, I try a vast array of fragrances—twelve new ones this month alone. My vanity is overflowing with an unspecified number of elegant, aromatic bottles, including classic vanilla scents, luxurious florals, citrus fragrances, and more. Yet, there’s one particular scent I continuously return to, even after a year since I first encountered it. That scent is Henry Rose Torn Eau de Parfum ($120). For those who may not know, Henry Rose is a clean, gender-neutral fine fragrance line created by Michelle Pfeiffer. I’m not alone in my admiration for it. A few months back, when my mom and sister visited my apartment, I seized the chance to share my new favorite fragrance, and they both thought it was exquisite—so much so that they asked for bottles of their own. Being a good daughter and sister, I complied, and now we all wear the same perfume. I find that truly special; I’m 29, my sister is 25, and my mom is 62. Unlike other fragrances that can seem too young or too mature, we all agree this one is timeless.
Henry Rose Torn Eau De Parfum With Vanilla + Vetiver Fragrance notes: Vanilla bean, praline, freesia, rose, violet, jasmine, musk, sandalwood, vetiver roots I first discovered this perfume a little over a year ago while compiling a list of the best sultry vanilla scents. Back then, I described it as a combination of floral, earthy, and creamy. I also noted that after it dried down, it developed a warmer and spicier character, likely due to the praline and vetiver root notes. After a year of wearing it, I still stand by my initial assessment, though I feel the need to elaborate, especially after hearing my mom and sister’s impressions. We all concur that the terms "warm" and "spicy" accurately capture its essence. The notes of vanilla bean, praline, and musk offer a deep, comforting ambiance, while the vetiver adds an almost bitter earthy twist. The bright floral notes of freesia, rose, violet, and jasmine contribute a light elegance. I completely relate to a review I found on Sephora's website stating, "I have over 200 bottles of perfume, and I don’t have anything like this one! It’s so cozy and unique!" It’s also important to mention that, like most scents, it has a slightly different aroma on each of us. On me, the creamy vanilla note stands out the most. My sister experiences the fresh florals more prominently, while my mom finds the warm, spicy notes to be more prominent. Regardless, the unique blend of notes results in a scent that is equally suitable for my sister in her 20s as it is for my mom at 62. In other words, it is sophisticated and smells luxurious without venturing into "grandma" territory. It's truly timeless and will always remain a staple on our vanities. Now we're just figuring out how to send personalized thank-you notes to Michelle Pfeiffer… Don't forget to check out Pfeiffer's fragrance layering tips.
