You know that first warm, sunny day when you fling open the windows and everything feels invigorating and refreshed for the first time in what seems like ages? I want to bring that energy into every room of my home during this season. This time of year always rejuvenates my excitement for home projects, and my bedroom is first on my list this spring. After a long winter spent bundled under every blanket I own, I’m eager to ditch the winter layers and give my bedding a seasonal refresh. If you’re also looking for a reset, read on for some simple spring bedding ideas to prepare for the upcoming season.
1. Swap winter bedding for lighter materials
During winter, the priority is usually to make your bed as cozy and warm as possible. However, as the temperatures rise, materials like flannel and fleece can feel a bit heavy. To prepare for the warmer weather, trade thick winter layers for lighter, more breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. If you appreciate the crispness of hotel sheets, choose percale weave bedding, or opt for sateen for a silky touch. Personally, I love bringing out my linen sheets in the spring; they have a breezy, lived-in charm that feels so cozy.
2. Replace solid sheets with a fun pattern
I typically lean toward solid-color sheets, but I recently purchased some botanical-print bedding, and it has really brightened up my bedroom for spring. This small upgrade can be cost-effective yet significantly refresh your bedroom's appearance. Floral patterns are a classic choice for spring, but stripes and gingham can also suit the season wonderfully.
3. Clean or replace pillows
In the spirit of spring cleaning, now is the ideal time to provide some care for your pillows. Experts generally suggest replacing bed pillows every one to two years, which is more often than I anticipated. If your pillows have become lumpy, flat, or lack support, it’s wise to invest in new ones. If they’re still in decent condition, consider washing them on a gentle cycle (always check the care tag first) to eliminate dust, sweat, and allergens.
4. Introduce a colorful throw
While spring brings warmer weather, there are still many chilly evenings ahead before summer arrives. Having a throw blanket at the foot of your bed is practical for those cooler nights, and it’s a wonderful chance to add a splash of color to your bedroom. Choose a throw in a vibrant hue for a bold look, or select soft pastels that capture the essence of spring.
5. Incorporate new accent pillows
Accent pillows are essential for creating a well-dressed bed that looks like it belongs to an adult, and they can be enjoyable to change with the seasons. Experiment with different shapes, such as square Euro pillows paired with a long lumbar pillow or a cylindrical bolster pillow. This is also a perfect way to introduce a pop of color, pattern, or texture to liven up your bedding.
