This is the skirt to choose if you want people to approach you on the street and say, “Hey, cute outfit!”
I have always been a fan of skirts. Dresses and skirts dominate my wardrobe, but I find skirts to be particularly versatile, especially as a new season begins. With spring finally here, I’ve made it my goal to incorporate my skirts back into my everyday outfits—sorry, straight-leg jeans, it’s been fun. I initially thought my white skirts would be the first I’d reach for, but surprisingly, that wasn't the color I felt drawn to. Enter red skirts.
I don't own a red skirt yet—another fact about my wardrobe is that it's mostly neutral—yet my interest was piqued when I saw Kendall Jenner sporting a stylish red knee-length skirt earlier this month. She styled it with black loafers, white ankle socks, a loose navy knit, and a Ralph Lauren baseball cap featuring matching red embroidery, and this look instantly made a permanent impression on my mental outfit inspiration list.
Suddenly, it felt like a switch flipped in my mind, and I began to notice red skirt ensembles everywhere. From the streets of San Jose to my own home in London, the number of fashionable people wearing red skirts right now is unprecedented—so much so that I’m calling it a "trend." While Jenner’s skirt is crafted from structured cotton, I've spotted red skirts in a variety of fabrics. From luxurious-looking satin, as worn by my colleague Eliza Huber in New York, to lightweight linen styles that will transition nicely into summer, there are plenty of options available.
Though a red skirt may not seem overly bold or intimidating, it certainly makes a statement. Opting for one instead of black, beige, or white shows a thoughtful choice and suggests that you’ve put effort into your outfit, even though styling a red skirt is relatively easy. Take our Editor in Chief, Hannah Almassi, for instance. She paired her chic Me+Em skirt with a tan shirt, a studded belt, and zebra print sandals, demonstrating that there’s more to styling a red skirt than just a white tee or a navy jumper (though those combinations do look undeniably stylish together).
I don’t know about you, but I’m convinced. Continue reading to shop my selection of the best red skirts currently available.
