In my view, when considering denim washes that exude a sense of luxury, light-wash jeans don’t quite fit the bill. They often appear more casual and less refined compared to darker washes. However, there are combinations that can elevate the look of light-wash jeans, and Zendaya recently showcased one of these. While in Favignana, Italy, filming The Odyssey, she sported straight-leg light-wash jeans and styled them to look just as upscale as darker options. Her secret? She paired them with a piece that instantly upgrades casual ensembles: a car coat. Also referred to as a mac coat or a single-breasted trench coat, these coats earned their name in the early 1900s because they were meant to shield outfits from the weather while riding in open-top vehicles.
