The Loves of My Life: Joanne Froggatt
The most impactful interviews are often deeply personal. In "Loves of My Life," we explore the individual behind their work, posing the essential questions we yearn to uncover—their favorite restaurants and romantic getaways, what they save on Instagram, their most cherished piece of jewelry, and the secrets hiding at the bottom of their bag. Essentially, these are the true passions of their lives. Next up is actress and Golden Globe winner Joanne Froggatt. What’s your favorite restaurant in the world, and what do you like to order? My top pick is Nobu in Malibu, where I would choose the spicy tuna on crispy rice. It’s an extraordinary taste experience. Sitting by the ocean offers a stunning backdrop, especially if you’re lucky enough to get an outdoor table. The sounds of the waves add to the incredible dining experience. Is there anything in your closet that holds sentimental value? After experiencing some significant life changes, I treated myself to a Chanel wallet on a chain. Wearing it reminds me of freedom, independence, joy, and self-assurance. What would we find hidden at the bottom of your handbag? A lip balm is always there. In particular, I adore Tatcha's Kissu lip mask. (Image credit: Nobu Malibu) The Nobu restaurant in Malibu, California. What’s your signature fragrance? It’s definitely Romance by Ralph Lauren. If you could vacation in just one place for the rest of your life, where would it be? I would choose the Maldives, as it looks absolutely breathtaking. Although I haven’t been there yet, it’s on my bucket list. I love the idea of diving every day—that would be amazing. We’ve caught you on a rare day off. How do you spend your free time? I'd probably be enjoying time with my loved ones—family and friends. If it’s chilly outside, I’d love to have a fire going, a glass of wine in hand, and cuddle up with a movie. That sounds like paradise to me. What’s your secret spot for date nights? If I revealed it, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore! However, I do enjoy a cozy, independent, dimly lit restaurant as my ideal location. (Image credit: Bertie Watson, @jofroggatt) What’s one item of clothing you could never let go of, and why? It's actually multiple items—my shoes! I seldom part with shoes, especially if they’re special. Vintage cowboy boots hold a special place in my heart. I’ve collected many while traveling and also found some online or in vintage shops. I have a real fondness for vintage cowboy boots; their history makes them even more appealing. The older, the better! They’re timeless, so I could never part with them. What’s the song you play most on Spotify right now? Since becoming a mother, my most-listened-to songs have changed significantly over the past few months—my playlist is quite different now compared to before! Looking back, my top track was "Ritual Union" by Little Dragon. What’s your favorite Instagram account to follow? It’s an easy choice—my favorite account is The Female Quotient @femalequotient. If we were to look through your Saved folder on Instagram, what would we find? Actually, nothing at all... I don’t have a Saved folder on Instagram! (Image credit: Getty Images, @jofroggatt, Paramount) Where do you find inspiration, and where do you go for fun? Nature serves as my main source of inspiration, while I enjoy having fun with friends at a great bar. What’s one beauty or self-care item you can't do without? Sunscreen. I’ve been using it on my face and chest since I was around 23, every single day, regardless of the weather. It’s the best way to prevent premature skin aging. What are your three favorite films of all time? I don’t have a top three—I have about a hundred! It’s challenging to choose. However, three of my favorites include "A Streetcar Named Desire," featuring Marlon Brando in his prime; "Sophie’s Choice," which showcases an incredible performance by Meryl Streep; and "The Talented Mr. Ripley," where the casting is superb, and I love the darkness within the relationships and its commentary on society. It’s a captivating psychological journey that follows the main character. (Image credit: Paramount) Joanne and co-star Tom Hardy appear in the Paramount+ crime series "MobLand." What's a piece of advice from someone you cherish that has always stuck with you? There are a few, but my granddad carried a poem in his wallet for over 50 years titled "The Man in the Glass." In summary, it conveys that when all is said and done, if you can look at yourself in the mirror and be proud of who you are, then you’ve won at life.
