5 Often Overlooked Elements for Radiant and Youthful Skin, as Shared by Zendaya's Esthetician
In my profession, skincare advice is plentiful. However, receiving such tips from someone like Joomee Song is rare. Known quietly as Hollywood's master face sculptor, Song possesses extensive knowledge about skin care—with and without products. I have admired her work for years, as she is behind the envy-inducing glows of stars like Lady Gaga, Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, and Ana de Armas. Recently, I had the honor of experiencing one of Song's legendary facials and took the chance to gather her advice. It was clear why she draws numerous celebrity clients; after just a few minutes of working on my face, she provided valuable insights into my skin and areas for improvement. While there are several key products she endorses in her practice, she emphasizes a daily habit everyone should adopt to maintain healthy, vibrant skin. A hint: it doesn’t even require products. If you’re interested in Song’s product suggestions and all her tips, keep reading. She’s sharing everything below.
Joomee Song's Top Skincare Tips
Song has a range of products and techniques she believes contribute to youthful, radiant skin, but her top (and most practical) advice revolves around one daily practice, which she emphasizes as the most crucial.
1. Incorporate facial massage: Song advises, "Massage your face every day. Regularly releasing tension in your facial muscles can provide greater benefits than any product or device, as that tightness restricts blood flow and hinders collagen and elastin production. Daily facial massage—even for a few minutes while cleansing and moisturizing—allows your muscles to relax and your skin to reset."
2. Stay committed to your skincare routine: The effectiveness of your routine relies on your consistency. If you don’t adhere to it, you might not achieve the desired results. "Consider your relationship with your skin as one requiring commitment," Song explains. "There are no shortcuts to a lasting partnership, just as there are no real 'quick fixes' for skincare. Success requires time and dedication, which is why massage is pivotal for long-term skin health. Through massage, you connect with not just the visible skin but everything beneath it. You can sense when something feels different or off and address that stress. More than any product, daily communication with your skin through massage will release stagnant energy and alleviate tension, fundamentally improving your skin. Remember, it's never too late to enhance your relationship with your skin. Be present and approach it day by day."
3. Boost blood circulation for a healthy glow: While Song loves using facial massage for this purpose, you can also enhance blood flow by utilizing a roller device. Personally, I enjoy my Acu Roller from The Things We Do, as it effectively massages the face without using your hands. After using it, my skin appears slightly red, confirming it increases blood circulation. Additionally, it is easy to incorporate into your morning or evening skincare regimen.
4. Keep it minimal before special occasions: When I inquired about her prep routine for celebrity clients before red carpet events, Song surprised me by saying she keeps things simple. "Believe it or not, I typically do the least on the day of an event," she states. "My Kaika treatments are consistently done over weeks, creating muscle memory to prepare the skin for the big day. The day prior, I avoid aggravating or irritating the skin by limiting product use. Instead, I focus on supporting the skin barrier with de-puffing facial massage techniques on the most concerning areas. I also rely on soothing, hydrating products to plump the skin and reduce redness and inflammation."
5. Beauty devices are an enhancement, not a substitute: Song appreciates skincare devices but emphasizes the importance of returning to basics and caring for your skin with your hands. It's also the most economical choice since devices can be expensive. "Whether it’s a microcurrent tool or LED mask, use whatever brings you and your skin joy, but always take a moment to feel your face," she advises. "Your hands will remember your skin’s texture over time. They are your greatest skincare tool."

Like me, Song regards Saie's Glowy Super Gel as her secret for adding warmth and radiance to the skin.
