My sister and I have different skin types, yet these products *miraculously* suit both of us.
In this photo, we’re shown without makeup outside a café during a recent visit to Paris. (Image credit: @kaitlyn_mclintock) My sister Kristin and I share many similarities, but our skin types are quite different. I have dry, dehydrated skin, while she has oily, acne-prone skin. Consequently, we seldom use the same skincare products, but "seldom" is the key term here. Occasionally, we discover a product that works wonders for both of us.
I like to refer to these rare finds as unicorn products; they perfectly complement our opposing routines. For me, they provide hydration and help combat signs of aging as I approach 30, while Kristin, who is 25, benefits from reduced inflammation and the assurance that they won’t clog her pores. Below, you'll find the eight skincare products we both love, along with five additional beauty items we can agree on.
**The 8 Skincare Products We Both Swear By**
1. **Personal Day Trust Me on This Hypochlorous Acid Spray**
Hypochlorous acid is essentially a miraculous ingredient. Naturally produced in our body, it possesses gentle yet effective sanitizing abilities and has anti-inflammatory properties. This means it eases irritation, alleviates redness, and helps prevent acne. I rely on it during long travel days when washing my face isn't an option, and I also use it post-workout or sauna sessions to calm my skin and minimize redness. Kristin, on her part, uses it almost every day to combat acne-causing bacteria.
2. **PEACH & LILY Bio Rice Wine Softening Toner**
I introduced Kristin to Peach & Lily years back, and she has been a fan since. We both appreciate how the brand focuses on calming and hydrating ingredients. Although there are many products we adore from them, we have recently been enjoying the Bio Rice Wine Softening Toner, inspired by the Korean rice wine, makgeolli. It features a creamy, nutrient-rich formula that softens, brightens, and soothes the skin. With barrier-strengthening elements like bio-fermented rice wine and urea, it keeps my skin hydrated while keeping Kristin's clear and calm. This toner has become a key component in both our skincare routines.
3. **PEACH & LILY Glass Skin Refining Serum**
We can't forget to highlight Peach & Lily's Glass Skin Refining Serum, their top-selling product, and for good reason. With its blend of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, peach extract, and East Asian mountain yam, it brightens, firms, hydrates, and calms the skin all at once. I attribute my reduction in chronic redness and my hydrated, plump skin to this serum, while Kristin appreciates that it’s one of the few formulations that hasn’t worsened her acne.
4. **LANEIGE Bouncy & Firm Eye Brightening Sleeping Mask**
Although I’m the beauty editor, it was Kristin who first introduced me to this eye cream. Drawing inspiration from the Korean "slow-aging" trend, it works overnight to firm, plump, and de-puff the eye area using peony, caffeine, niacinamide, and a collagen complex. The texture is lightweight, juicy, and gel-like — it absorbs without any residue. We both think it's worth the investment.
5. **Kiehl's Since 1851 Better Screen UV Serum Sunscreen SPF 50+**
I’ve never seen Kristin so enthusiastic about a sunscreen as she is about this one, and after trying it myself, I understand why. The formula acts like an SPF and an anti-aging serum combined, offering SPF 50+ and sun damage-reversing peptides. Essentially, it not only protects against sun damage but also helps to repair it. This lightweight fluid absorbs seamlessly, eliminating concerns about residue, white cast, or clogged pores.
6. **Murad Clarifying Body Spray With Salicylic Acid**
Despite my dry skin, I occasionally get clogged pores on my back when A) the weather is warm or B) I’m particularly active. Kristin recommended Murad's Clarifying Body Spray during such times, and I’m grateful she did. With a potent combination of salicylic and glycolic acids, along with allantoin and blue lotus extract, it prevents body breakouts without excessive irritation or drying out the skin. This will be a summer essential for my gym bag.
7. **Mutha The Nudist Body Scrub**
This body scrub uses natural brown sugar to exfoliate dead skin and reveal softer, smoother limbs. It’s rich in oils, which may seem counterproductive for acne-prone skin, but Kristin finds it actually helps maintain her skin’s clarity. This is likely due to its formulation with postbiotics for a healthy skin barrier and amino acids that reduce transepidermal water loss. Plus, it has an
