Our Real-Time Reactions to the 2025 Met Gala Red Carpet Styles: Ranging from the Most Extravagant to the Most On-Theme
The Met Gala has arrived, which is essentially the Super Bowl for every fashion editor. To say we are looking forward to the evening would be an understatement; we've been gearing up for this all year. We've been especially eager for the red carpet today after getting a sneak preview of the Costume Institute's exhibit, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." At the Met Museum preview, co-chair Colman Domingo shared a quote from American playwright and director George C. Wolfe: "It is a statement on the influence and impact of Black culture and individuals on fashion and style," Domingo remarked. "This quote is often referenced to emphasize the creative and innovative essence of Black individuals in shaping trends and fashion. Here it is: George C. Wolfe stated, 'God created Black people and Black people created style.'" The exhibit's theme was inspired by Monica Miller's 2009 book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." The menswear element influenced tonight's dress code, which is “Tailored for You.” We expect to see an array of suits, an incredible moment from Rihanna (with A$AP Rocky as a co-chair), and something fabulously spectacular from Colman Domingo, naturally. Let the festivities commence!
