The Essential Memorial Day Outfit Combinations You Require This Year
Memorial Day Weekend has always been my cue to officially transition into summer mode. It’s the first real opportunity to embrace warm-weather attire without any doubts. The layers come off, light whites make an appearance, and I begin to mentally map out outfits for rooftop drinks, park outings, and other sun-filled activities. This year, I’m staying nearby, and to be honest, I’m thrilled about it. There are no flight delays or packing hassles—just me, my wardrobe, and a weekend to enjoy dressing up in honor of summer. Recently, I've been drawn to fun textures, bold jewelry, and touches of red (since fashion insiders everywhere have proclaimed it the color of the season). If you're also eager to retire your spring layers and embrace the simplicity of summer dressing, I've compiled five outfit formulas that require little effort but still look chic. I’ll be wearing these throughout the weekend—and likely all season long.
**Beachy Pants + a White Tank**
If you're heading to the beach but still want to maintain a polished look, start with a pair of flowy pants that feel like pajamas yet convey a resort vibe. Pair them with a perfect white ribbed tank (a timeless summer essential), and I often let a bit of my bikini top peek through for an effortlessly casual look. Complete the outfit with bold jewelry reminiscent of beach boutiques, even if it actually arrived via express delivery.
**LBD: Summer Edition**
Regardless of the season, I always return to a little black dress. This Memorial Day, I'll layer mine over a printed one-piece for a hint of pattern and pair the look with my Toga Pulla buckle sandals (the stylish alternative to Birkenstocks). With the bamboo-handled bag, turquoise necklace, and striped raffia bucket hat, it strikes a balance between beach picnic and urban chic—exactly the vibe I’m aiming for this weekend.
**Butter Yellow**
Butter yellow is making waves on Instagram right now. It appears to be in a friendly competition with red for the top color of the season, and I’m excited about both. It’s trendy and easy to mix with neutrals as well as other vibrant shades.
**Flowy Maxi + Paracord Sandals**
If your Memorial Day plans are similar to mine and include bottomless rosé and sunny patios, you’ll want an outfit that feels just as effortless. Enter the crisp white maxi. It’s immediately refined while remaining light enough for a hot sidewalk brunch. I’ll be pairing mine with red paracord sandals (very reminiscent of S/S 24 Miu Miu) and a bandana bag that subtly nods to Americana without being too obvious.
**Mini Shorts + a Cozy Sweater**
Though mini shorts and a cozy sweater may seem like a seasonal contradiction, that’s exactly what makes it work. For hot days with cool evenings, it’s the ideal combination. I plan to wear my silk shorts throughout the summer. They’re a flirty yet easy-to-wear statement piece.
