At Who What Wear UK, we have a passion for testing hair tools. From heated brushes and hair dryers to curling wands and straighteners, we thoroughly evaluate hot tools. For this month’s Deep Reviews, we chose to assess a new hair waver—the GHD Wave Hair Waver (£159).
Hair wavers are excellent for achieving a laid-back, beachy texture without ever needing to step near the ocean. They create those desirable tousled waves reminiscent of celebrities like Sienna Miller and Kate Moss. When GHD introduced its Wave hair tool, I gathered the Who What Wear UK editors to see how it performs. Keep scrolling for our candid reviews and before-and-after photos following a month of testing the waver.

**Grace's Review**
Hair type: Long, thick, and wavy
Rating: 8/10
Grace's review: "I have long, thick, and naturally wavy hair, but I usually blow-dry it straight before curling it for some movement. I’ve always preferred voluminous, bouncy curls over beachy waves, so I was eager to test this GHD tool. Upon opening the box, I was surprised by its size, but it meant I could style my hair in under ten minutes, which is a huge advantage for someone with thick hair. While it does take time to get used to if you’re unfamiliar with hair wavers, once you master it, it’s straightforward. Just hold the tool on each hair section briefly before moving down until the entire piece is waved. Its larger size makes it challenging to reach the roots without burning yourself, but the tips are easy to style. I loved the final result and received numerous compliments on my hair afterward. It gave me that relaxed, beachy vibe that's usually hard to recreate, making it a worthy investment for the summer. I found the waves lasted a couple of days, though this can vary based on individual hair types. The only downside is that it may be more difficult to use on shorter hair due to the tool’s size, but for those with lengthy hair wanting beachy waves, I highly recommend it."
**Humaa's Review**
Hair type: Shoulder-length and wavy
Rating: 7/10
Humaa's review: "With my brunette lob and naturally wavy hair, I often find myself conflicted between embracing texture and using my straighteners. My hair tends to frizz at the crown, so I generally go for a sleek finish, but I was curious about trying the GHD Wave for a more polished appearance than my natural waves. Although I have used curling wands for waves before, a triple-barrel waver was new to me, so I was excited to see how it performed.
My first impression was that it’s beautiful but quite large. On shorter hair, it’s not the easiest to handle. The barrel size made it somewhat difficult to get close to the roots. There is indeed a learning curve, especially for those without longer hair. However, after some practice, I found a rhythm, and the results were stunning. The waves achieved looked like a refined version of my natural texture—less frizzy and more polished. It tamed the crown area, where I typically struggle with frizz, giving me that effortless, beachy vibe without appearing overly styled. Surprisingly, the waves remained intact for about seven hours, even without texturizing products. In comparison to a curling wand, this tool produced a more uniform and defined wave, but it was slightly harder to control for shorter hair. Is it worth the price? If waves are your signature style, then yes—but for me, I’d probably wait for a sale. My final rating: 7/10—gorgeous results, but not very friendly for short hair."
