As the Dior Cruise 2026 runway presentation kicked off in the gardens of Villa Albani Torlonia in Rome, Italy, rain began to fall, yet it did not detract from the stunning collection. "Just minutes before the show began, the rain started," model Kelsey Merritt, who was seated in the front row, shared with Who What Wear. "But by the time we reached the finale, the sky had cleared up. It added a gorgeous, cinematic quality to the show." This Dior event represents the last collection from Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who has been at the helm of the French fashion house since 2016, with the announcement coming the day after the show. Chiuri's exquisite collection merged both resort and couture styles, featuring ethereal gowns, soft ruffles and lace, along with a color palette of white, gold, and metallic gray. Many in the fashion industry, including Merritt, noted that this heartfelt showcase in Chiuri's native Rome was among her strongest during her time there. "This might be my favorite collection Maria Grazia has ever created," Merritt expressed. "It was poetic, powerful, and deeply moving." Ahead, Kelsey Merritt shares her insights with Who What Wear on the Dior Cruise 2026 collection and Maria Grazia Chiuri's magnificent grand finale for the French fashion house.

Can you tell me about your earliest fashion memory?

I've always had a passion for fashion. Even as a young girl, I would spend all my savings on clothes. It's something I've loved for as long as I can remember.

What is your first memory of Dior?

I was first introduced to Dior early in my career, and I was instantly taken by its elegance and timeless appeal. I remember being inspired by the artistry and heritage present in every garment.

Do you have any pre-show routines or rituals? What is something unexpected about your runway preparation?

If time allows, I enjoy using red light therapy and microcurrent treatments before show day, especially when my skin needs extra care. It helps me feel rejuvenated and glowing from within.

Can you describe your beauty routine and the inspiration behind your look?

Recently, I've kept things quite simple. My skin has been reacting with hives, so I’m sticking to the essentials. Today, I aimed for a sun-kissed glow. Wearing white in Rome inspired me to embody a bit of a Roman goddess vibe.

I'd love to hear about the outfit you chose for today. What elements resonate with you and your personal style?

I was thrilled when Dior sent me this look. It’s a bit different from my usual style, yet it still feels very much like me. The silhouette is classic and elegant, and the collar detail adds a regal flair. I adore how the boots inject a cool edge into the whole ensemble.

What are your top photography tips while traveling?

I rely on my iPhone; some of my best shots have been taken on it. If I have the room, I’ll also bring my Contax T3 for film photography. Usually, I have whoever I’m traveling with take my photos. I enjoy capturing spontaneous moments.

What is your most indulgent, guilt-free tourist pleasure while in Rome?

Pasta and gelato—absolutely no guilt involved.

Dior has countless iconic pieces. If you could select one Dior piece from the archives to wear on a special occasion, which would it be?

The Junon gown from Dior's A/W 49 collection. The cascading petals and sculptural silhouette are absolutely enchanting. It’s timeless, dramatic, and the ultimate statement piece—a true showstopper.

What are your thoughts on Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior 2026 Cruise collection? Which look is your favorite?

This may be my favorite collection from Maria Grazia. It was poetic, powerful, and profoundly moving. Her talent for merging craftsmanship with cultural narratives is genuinely remarkable.

What was the talk among those in the front row?

We were all trying to keep dry. It hadn’t rained at all during our time in Rome, and then, just moments before the show started, the rain arrived. However, by the time the finale rolled around, the sky had cleared. It lent a beautiful, cinematic drama to the show. The venue itself mesmerized everyone.
