I am truly a dress person and have a slight aversion to pants. I rarely find myself drawn to jeans or trousers, despite wanting to give them a chance. This is why I've been layering my dresses over my pants lately. This somewhat controversial styling has become my introduction to dressing in a way that covers my legs. Pants seem too straightforward for me, whereas I prefer outfits that make me think a little. I enjoy looks that are somewhat puzzling. Wearing dresses over pants creates that element of double-take skepticism. Like the best fashion styling, it's not for everyone. When some dislike your outfit while others embrace it, that indicates you're on the right path.

The trend of wearing a dress over pants was quite popular in the early 2000s. Do I believe every Disney star from that era executed it correctly on the red carpet? Not necessarily! However, the way this style is returning in 2025 feels quite distinct. It's not just about casually throwing a dress over pants for an edgy vibe; it’s about experimenting with silhouettes and crafting interesting shapes with slip dresses made of unique textures and varying levels of transparency. It's a fusion of feminine and masculine elements, softening the rigidness of pants with the airy flow of a dress.

I do recognize that this look can be daunting. It feels unnatural to wear two pieces when you typically opt for just one. Therefore, I gathered some of my favorite street style inspirations to demonstrate how to effectively pull off this trend this summer.
