These Flip-Flops Have Just Gone Viral, Signifying That Everyone Will Be Sporting This Trend by Summer 2025.
There’s no disappointment quite like that of a pair of shoes you can’t own, and if you doubt that, just check out some of the reactions on the Spanish brand Gimaguas's Instagram. A few weeks ago, the brand—favored by celebrities such as Charli XCX, Addison Rae, and Rachel Sennott—teased a pair of black Havaianas flip-flops adorned with silver studs along the inside sole. The post quickly went viral, inundated with comments asking about their release date. Some fans even expressed that they would be devastated if they couldn't get a pair and that summer wouldn’t feel complete without wearing them. One comment noted, "Give it to me Rachel," referencing a viral TikTok from 2022 where a mother requests her daughter to show her a video claiming to have spotted Jesus.
While the studded Havaianas x Gimaguas flip-flops might not be as monumental as a religious event, they are undeniably adorable. It's disheartening to discover that they were released in very limited quantities in Europe. I felt a sharp disappointment when I found that out, which only intensified during my visit to Barcelona this week when I spotted all the associates in the Gimaguas store wearing them. They were unintentionally flaunting the unattainable right in front of me.
Seeing the shoes up close made me realize how much I desire something similar in my life. I’ve already claimed this as the summer of unique flip-flops, and these are the distinct ones I crave. Generally, flip-flops are seen as the domain of tourists who favor comfort above all else. They seem like a choice for the less adventurous, people who simply slide into basic sandals instead of taking risks with their footwear. However, that perception is changing. Flip-flops are increasingly being worn alongside The Row and Miu Miu, transforming them into a symbol of effortless coolness. Wearing them has become a statement of indifference—not because you can’t be bothered with other footwear, but because you simply don’t care. Some individuals even don them to convey an air of casual effortlessness, which ironically contradicts the whole idea, yet it still works.
What I appreciate about studded flip-flops like the rare Gimaguas x Havaianas pair is their ability to challenge traditional ideas of what flip-flops should be. The studs lend them a tougher edge, distinguishing them from typical options that cater to those who shy away from risking a blister for something exciting. While I’ll continue hoping for Gimaguas to release a second collection in the U.S. (Claudia and Sayana, if you’re reading this, please?!) in the meantime, I’ll settle for the studded flip-flops listed below.
