My Trick for Buying Shoes, Along with the Swimsuit I've Had for Ten Years
I was recently a guest on Amanda Wakeley's podcast, Style DNA, and it made me realize that I’ve remained loyal to my style choices for nearly two decades in the industry. While I keep up with trends and enjoy looking for them, my personal style has largely stayed consistent over time, apart from the occasional quirky decision. I can't say whether it's cool or chic, but it’s authentically me, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Thus, this month's newsletter is a tribute to the summer pieces and shopping tips that have always served me well. From a designer swimsuit that's truly worth the price to my go-to high-street shoe trick, I hope these suggestions help you navigate a season often filled with disposable, low-quality items that only last for one vacation or heatwave! Remember, feel free to ask me anything about style; I’ll answer as many questions as possible in this newsletter. Just submit your queries via Instagram at @whowhatwear.uk or reach out to me at @hannahalmassi.
Here’s What I’m Loving in July
Style Notes: A habit I've always maintained is buying pieces I like in multiple colors (if available), and I believe shoes are the most successful category for this. I typically don’t say this about many things, but one can never have too many shoes. I've applied this principle across various price ranges, from designer picks—like some over-the-knee boots in brown and beige suede from French label L’Autre Chose, which I've worn countless times—to numerous high-street options from Zara, M&S, Boden, and others. This month, I found the most exquisite pair of leather kitten-heel sandals from & Other Stories. They were on sale, so I decided to take a chance and bought all three colors: butter yellow, pale pink, and burgundy. As it turns out, they’re well-crafted, incredibly comfortable, and easy to wear throughout the workday. So, if I can impart any advice (especially for those with particular foot needs like mine), it’s to invest in shoes you genuinely love wearing in as many colors as possible—you won’t regret it!

2. UNDER THE RADAR: Karla Colletto Swimwear
Style Notes: It’s quite embarrassing to share a photo of myself in a swimsuit, but this is important, and I believe in not gatekeeping. A decade ago, I heeded the wise advice of Lily Russo, Marie Claire’s fashion director and seasoned swimwear expert, who recommended I try a swimsuit from Karla Colletto. She suggested it for its classic style that includes smart underpinnings (like layered mesh and underwires) to support my bust and flatter my hourglass figure—something that can make shopping for affordable swimwear quite disheartening. I chose a ruched red swimsuit from the US brand, which has proven to be incredibly durable; despite fluctuations in my figure and weight since I purchased it, this one-piece has held up beautifully. You can see me wearing it in 2016 and just last year; it hasn’t bobbled, stretched, lost elasticity, or faded in color. I’d much prefer to invest in one swimsuit that lasts over 10 years rather than constantly buying cheap bikinis that fall apart after one trip and don't complement my body. There are currently several styles on sale at MyTheresa, so it's a great opportunity if you’re looking for a Coletto. I’ve also found some other ruched one-piece options for you to consider.
Top tip: Be sure to rinse your swimsuit after every wear to eliminate salt water, sunscreen, or chlorine, as these can hasten its deterioration!

3. ASK HANNAH ANYTHING (about style)
“I’m looking for white skirts that aren’t see-through (but also not expensive). Help!"
Hannah says, "It can be challenging to determine online whether a white fabric is see-through; however, here’s a tip to get you started: look for styles that have a lining. I have two white skirts from last summer that exemplify this approach: one is a cotton, full-skirted midi from Aligne that uses the same fabric for both the
