It's Really Warm Outside! 12 Exceptionally Stylish Items That Will Carry Me Through Summer 2025 and Even Further
This year, similar to previous ones, I've observed various seasonal trends, popular fads, and 'aesthetics' making their way onto the wardrobes of the internet's most stylish individuals. However, there is one summer vibe that has particularly stood out to me. It features relaxed coordinating outfits, bohemian cotton dresses, and loose-fitting baggy trousers paired with elegant cami tops and silk headscarves. This style brings back memories of the early 2000s—worn with carefree, windswept beach hair and minimal makeup, it exudes an easy-going charm that's always suitable for festivals. Yet, it can also appear polished when styled for warm, balmy evenings in places like the Mediterranean or at special occasions such as weddings or Wimbledon. This aesthetic is distinctly summer-oriented and feels like a mix of styles from some of the best-dressed locales around the globe (in my opinion: L.A., the South of France, London, Sydney, and beyond). Some might label this trend as a boho revival, but I affectionately call it "The Free People Effect." (Image credit: Courtesy of Free People)
Free People, known for its effortless, easy-to-pair outfits, was once mainly recognized for its vintage-inspired styles and bohemian atmosphere. Think crochet dresses, distressed denim, and embroidered linen. Although this remains true, the brand has evolved in recent years to include activewear, intimates, swimwear, and even beauty and wellness items. Its free-spirited design aesthetic has significantly influenced my Instagram feed and is now a staple in the wardrobes of many influencers, celebrities, and fashion industry peers I follow. I've noticed their bloomer trousers on Scandinavian fashionistas, Y2K-style studded leather or chain belts on my colleagues, and I’ve encountered this Seersucker midi dress on the streets at least once a week since spring started. This, my friends, is the Free People Effect in action.
We've been fortunate with unusually consistent good weather in the UK—particularly in London, where it feels like it has been sunny since April 1, and the heatwave is poised to continue. As a result, there’s been an upswing in high-summer styles being sported not only during holidays but also at work, on weekends, and even while working from home. Lightweight cotton clothing is ideal for 30-degree weather; although likely worn solo in such heat, they can easily serve as layering pieces as autumn approaches. Take this minidress, for example: While it’s perfect with sandals for a holiday, or with shorts for a pub outing with friends, as we move into September, I recommend pairing it with some loose jeans like these. Regarding holiday packing, there's no need to exceed your baggage allowance—this summer collection features numerous matching sets that can be dressed up or down, allowing you to mix and match a top or bottom to create entirely different outfits. I've done the research and searched through the entire Free People site, so whether you’re going on vacation, enjoying the heatwave in the UK, or simply looking to refresh your summer wardrobe, here are my top recommendations to consider adding to your basket.
