Not Linen, Not Denim: The Adorable Trouser Trend That People in Paris and London Are Sported Relentlessly.
While my wardrobe includes skirts and dresses, I definitely lean towards trousers. I even consider myself somewhat of an aficionado on the topic, always eager to experiment with new trends or silhouettes. The latest style catching my eye is bloomer trousers, a trend I've been monitoring since it started gaining traction in spring and has solidified its presence this season.
First showcased during Chloé’s spring/summer 2025 presentation last September and also featured at Alaïa that same season, bloomer trousers represent a shift from the fitted styles like cigarette pants and wide-leg tailoring that had previously dominated the trouser scene. With summer in full swing, it appears that bloomers are well on their way to becoming a staple. As jeans and linen typically dominate, I’m noticing a growing trend of people opting for lightweight bloomers instead, and I think I understand why.
These trousers possess a distinctly Parisian quality with their delicate, lingerie-inspired lace and airy shape—thanks in large part to Chloé, the French fashion house that revived them. They boast a silhouette akin to harem pants (or genie trousers) and feature unique elements like lace, broderie, and soft gathers. With both full-length and cropped variations currently trending, it's clear that fashion enthusiasts are enamored by their floaty, dress-like fluidity while still offering the comfort of trousers—combining the best of both worlds.
My newfound enthusiasm for the bloomer trouser trend, which motivated me to write, is driven by two factors. First, as we head into mid-summer and the temperatures begin to drop, the style has surged in popularity, with Google searches increasing by 90% and a remarkable 600% on the social shopping platform LTK. Secondly, I believe they can easily integrate into your autumn wardrobe. I've recently seen them styled on my commute with everything from cowboy boots to trainers, and leather jackets to vibrant knits, indicating they can work just as well next season. For now, they look chic paired with flip-flops, graphic tees, and basic tops.
