I Recently Experimented with the Woven Blonde Hair Trend—Honestly, My Hair Color Has Never Looked More Impressive.
As a beauty editor who analyzes hair trends for a living, I've noticed that no two shades of blonde are identical. There are numerous blonde hues available, ranging from worn blonde to jam blonde. The hair color trends for 2025 have provided ample inspiration for blondes this year. When our e-commerce analyst, Sophie Cookson, sought to revamp her blonde hair, she visited Hershesons for a refresh with colorist Marley Xavier and stylist Conor McLaughlin, ultimately choosing woven blonde. This might be the most stylish blonde hair color I've come across this year (and as a brunette, I'm even tempted). Read on to discover what woven blonde is and everything you need to know about this sophisticated hair color.
What is Woven Blonde?
Woven blonde features a careful blend of various tones akin to natural linen fabrics or wicker basket bags, creating a multi-tonal appearance. Cookson brought a photo of Elsa Hosk to her appointment at Hershesons as a color reference. "I aimed to completely refresh my look," says Cookson. "My natural color is a darker blonde, and I wanted something lighter and more vibrant for summer. Since I don’t visit the salon often for color, I sought something low-maintenance," she explains. "I typically style my hair in a tight bun on oily hair days, so we made sure it would still look good when pulled back."
"Sophie has an ideal base for adding blonde shades. Her natural golden sandy undertones provide a perfect canvas," Xavier notes. "By incorporating soft, milky baby blonde tones, we were able to create seamless dimension and a tonal finish. The outcome is a fluid, radiant blonde that appears effortlessly polished."
Before/After
"I applied ultra-fine strokes of blonde near the roots, gradually enhancing brightness along the lengths, particularly around the face," Xavier explains. "This technique fosters softness, texture, and dimension throughout the hair. It results in color that feels intricate and multi-dimensional—bright yet still natural-looking." Picture hair that appears naturally sun-kissed and multi-faceted.
The beauty of woven blonde is its timelessness. "This shade of blonde is consistently popular, not only in the peak of summer but all year long," he mentions. "Recently, clients have been requesting lighter shades in autumn and winter, which is a noticeable change. Traditionally, those seasons called for softer, muted blondes, but now people are embracing brightness and desiring elevated colors, regardless of the season."
What to Request in the Salon
Interested in trying woven blonde? Here's how to discuss it with your stylist. "Ask your colorist for a soft, dimensional blonde that blends babylights with foilayage," recommends Xavier. Similar to balayage, these techniques help in creating dimension. "Specify that you want a natural-looking brightness through the lengths, with a lighter frame around the face—something luminous but not too contrasting. Bring reference photos and discuss the tone you prefer. Mention milky blondes or creamy, sunlit shades instead of ash or platinum to keep the result warm, modern, and wearable," he adds.
Regarding the technique, Xavier utilized a combination of babylights and foilayage to achieve the woven appearance. "The babylights provide a soft, delicate brightness at the roots, resembling hair that's been naturally sun-kissed over time," he explains. "Foilayage adds luminous, radiant highlights throughout the mid-lengths and ends, finishing with a root melt and gloss. Together, this gives the hair a Scandi-cool lightness and a polished, summery glow that is fresh, dimensional, and not overly done."
Who is Woven Blonde Suitable For?
"This shade of blonde particularly flatters warm or neutral skin tones and enhances blue, green, or hazel eyes," Xavier states. "For cooler undertones, beige or champagne variations can also look fantastic. It’s essential to customize the tone to match your natural coloring," he suggests. He advises bringing in reference photos for your consultation. "Discuss with your stylist how bright you want to go and your maintenance preferences. Even the most naturally looking blondes require careful aftercare—hydrating and strengthening treatments, sulfate-free shampoo, and a hair gloss every couple of months will keep it fresh, luminous, and healthy."
How to Maintain Woven Blonde
As with most blonde shades, bleach can strain your hair, so proper home care is vital for maintaining vibrant color while ensuring hair health. "During the coloring process, we used Olaplex No. 1 and No. 2 to protect and strengthen the hair. It’s the original bond-building treatment and is excellent for preserving hair integrity during lightening. Sophie wanted to keep things bright yet low-maintenance, so we created a color that grows out softly and doesn't require constant touch-ups," Xavier explains.
"Between salon visits, I always recommend using sulfate-free shampoo. Avoid over-washing, excessive heat styling, and exposure to
