This lesser-known fragrance has gotten people running after me in the street lately.
When considering the greatest perfumes of all time, numerous brands likely come to mind, such as Jo Malone London, Byredo, and Diptyque. I've experienced fragrances from all these labels and can attest that they live up to the expectations. Yet, as a beauty editor, I take great pleasure in discovering lesser-known scents that many individuals may not be aware of. Perhaps it's the fragrance connoisseur in me, but there's something genuinely unique about wearing what I refer to as an "insider scent". One brand I've been keeping close to my heart for several years is Ellis Brooklyn. Established in 2015 by New York Times beauty writer Bee Shapiro, each fragrance is produced in small batches. Among the many delightful scents available, my personal favorite is Salt. This beach-themed fragrance has had people approaching me on the street this summer, inquiring about my perfume. **The Scent**
I usually gravitate towards marine perfumes featuring coastal-inspired notes, but interestingly, Salt from Ellis Brooklyn doesn't actually have any sea salt accords. Nevertheless, it evokes memories of warm, salty skin with its fresh and beachy aroma. I would characterize it as a skin scent, with undertones of sandalwood, musk, and Tahitian tiare. It triggers thoughts of running across the boardwalk after a long day on the beach when the ground is too hot underfoot. When I spray it on, it feels as if I can sense the saltwater in my hair and the sunscreen on my skin. This fragrance is quite different from your typical gourmand summer scents, but it's this distinctiveness that gives it an elegant and luxurious aroma.
**The Longevity**
Like most skin-like fragrances, I notice that I can't always detect this scent on myself after a few hours. However, I often receive compliments on it throughout the day, indicating that it lasts longer than I assume. It’s definitely not an overpowering fragrance, and I enjoy keeping a travel-sized bottle in my bag for touch-ups. If you prefer subtle and delicate scents, this one is sure to please.
**The Bottle**
Housed in a blue glass bottle, this fragrance radiates beach vibes. I love displaying it during the summer months, and the gold and white accents provide a level of elegance, making it perfect for Instagram.
**The Verdict**
If you're in search of a unique summer scent that stands out from the typical coconut and vanilla fragrances, I highly recommend adding the Ellis Brooklyn perfume to your collection. Chic and understated, Salt is a scent that's worth knowing. While it does represent more of an investment (50ml costs £126), compared to other niche perfume brands available, I believe it’s a worthy indulgence for the season. Additionally, the 10ml travel bottle is a fantastic way to sample the fragrance if you're uncertain about purchasing the full-sized version.
