Every Stylish Outfit Worn by Hermione Corfield to Promote the Outlander Prequel

During my conversation with Hermione Corfield, she was in the midst of a hectic press tour for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the eagerly awaited prequel to Starz's popular series. In recent weeks, the British actress had been shuttling between New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, and London, participating in a packed schedule of press engagements and premieres. Collaborating closely with renowned stylist Cher Coulter—who has dressed the likes of Sienna Miller, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Kate Bosworth—the pair crafted fashion looks that incorporated subtle references to the Outlander universe, utilizing pieces from Coperni, Rabanne, and other high-end brands.

The East Coast appearances showcased Corfield's ability to adapt her style, wearing a vibrant yellow Coach mini dress, a casual flannel and jeans combination from Acne, and a classic fall grey monochrome Marni suit with a pleated bubble skirt paired with Dear Frances loafers. In the West, she made a bold statement in Self-Portrait burgundy leather hot pants and Louboutins, followed by a softer choice of a flowing high-low floral dress from Alessandra Rich, evoking Victorian-era charm. Her three-day stint at Comic-Con featured a stylish Miu Miu midi dress, jewelry from the trendy Justine Clenquet, and a coordinating crop top and skirt by Shushu/Tong. For the Hollywood screening, she fully embraced the period piece's aesthetic in a romantic gown from Alberta Ferretti, while making further press appearances in designs from Patou and Isabel Marant. Back in the UK for the finale, she chose an Off-White Longline Maxi from MM6 Maison Margiela with an asymmetrical hem, and concluded the tour in a pink silk knee-length slip by Beirut-based designer Renaissance Renaissance. This summer has been monumental for her, especially with her recent recognition on Who What Wear's "Ones to Watch" list for her standout performance in the historical romance. Since then, her image has been plastered on subway platforms across Brooklyn and Manhattan—a clear indicator of the show's magnitude, which was renewed for a second season even before its premiere.

In our discussion, Corfield shared insights about her latest role, navigating press tour outfits, and her aspirations to write and direct her debut feature.

To start, could you tell me more about your background and your journey into acting? When did you decide to pursue it as a career?

The first time I considered acting as a career was at 15 when I joined the National Youth Theater. During a school break course, being surrounded by others from around the UK with the same dream made me think, “Yes, this could be a career.” After a casting director spotted a photo of me and reached out to my school to ask if I was an actor, I auditioned for Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart. Although I didn’t land the role, the casting director connected me with my current agent at Independent, marking the real beginning of my career.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood debuted on August 8. How would you describe the show and your character to someone unfamiliar with it?

It’s a prequel to Outlander, but prior knowledge of the original series isn't necessary. It retains the same fantastical elements and is grounded in Scotland's history, focusing on clan dynamics and the political landscape. At its heart, it's a love story. My character, Julia, and her husband Henry time travel from World War I England to 1700s Scotland, where they become separated. They are the parents of Claire from Outlander, and the narrative centers on their struggle to survive in 1700s Scotland after their time travel.

What is your process for immersing yourself in a new role? Does it feel distinct with each character? How did you approach this one?

It's interesting because, often, the first time you tackle a role, you typically start your preparation during the audition phase—unless you're offered the role outright. Initially, we focus on the character, and then I find it helpful to identify ways in which I’m similar to the character, and then explore the differences. For a role like this, particularly in a period drama, historical research is essential, which I find enjoyable. With this role, we received the scripts gradually, continuously learning about my character, which is both exciting and allows for ongoing development with each new script.

In what ways do you relate to or differ from Julia?

Julia has a very active mind and needs to stay busy; she's quite restless. I think I share that trait. As a mother, she would go to great lengths to protect her children, which is a driving force behind her actions.

How did you connect with the motherhood element of your character?

Although I’m not a mother yet, I’m surrounded by friends who are experiencing that transition, observing how their lives change and how they navigate motherhood while retaining their identity. The
