This particular style will be greatly in vogue this fall—here's how I'm incorporating it into my wardrobe already.
I had ambitious ideas for my outfits during my trip to Copenhagen at the beginning of August for fashion month. Initially, I intended to replicate that recent photo of Zoë Kravitz in a simple T-shirt paired with running shorts and kitten heels multiple times. Many online commented that her outfit echoed the famous Carrie Bradshaw style featuring Adidas track shorts, a white peasant top, and small heels. While that's accurate, Kravitz's ensemble also reminded me of the playful and unconventional way Scandinavian girls blend feminine and masculine styles. I believed it would be the ideal fashion inspiration for my time in the Danish fashion capital. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. The unpredictable, rainy weather forced me to shift to a more autumn-friendly wardrobe. Or should I say something slightly autumnal? I didn’t have to layer up with sweaters just yet—and I did manage to expose my midriff for one afternoon—but I definitely needed to think beyond the 90-degree mindset I had been dressing in for most of the season.
I decided to use Copenhagen Fashion Week as an opportunity to begin experimenting with the aesthetic I plan to embrace come October in New York, which is that of a lacy bohemian witch. Like many others, I'm heavily influenced by Chemena Kamali's Chloé and can already see signs that in the upcoming months, everyone will be sporting oversized pants with even bigger, flowy tops. Lace will become a staple rather than just an accent. Picture funky fur, platform boots, long charm necklaces, a plethora of crochet, and maxi everything. It’s reminiscent of the mid-2000s, and I'm all for it. Here are four outfits from Copenhagen Fashion Week that I assembled to fully prepare myself for a boho-chic fall.
**Look 1:** A large skirt with lace details, paired with black sneakers and a white asymmetrical top.
When I shared this outfit on my Instagram story, I received numerous messages about the Free People skirt. It was definitely my favorite piece from the week. The buttery yellow color reminded me of the ample Danish butter, and I especially loved the lace layer underneath. I opted for a casual vibe with Cecilie Bahnsen x Asics sneakers and a white asymmetrical sweater top. In my view, this is the perfect approach to style a hyper-feminine lace skirt while still adding an edge that feels casual enough for various occasions.
**Look 2:** A voluminous top with lace-trimmed shorts and practical rubber rain boots.
I adore how oversized Cecilie Bahnsen tops are, and this particular one is frequently found in my fall outfit repertoire. The large sleeves and peplum design can sometimes complicate styling with midi skirts, my usual choice. Fortunately, these lace-trimmed Free People shorts created the ideal silhouette, allowing me to feel incredibly comfortable. Even though they're adorned with bright lace, they remain sporty, which paired well with the vintage Chanel rain boots I wore almost every day due to the weather.
**Look 3:** A frilly lace button-down with a statement necklace and a maxi denim skirt.
I've struggled with styling maxi denim skirts for years, despite my deep affection for them. (This one from Free People is especially striking.) They evoke the quintessential wardrobe piece of a stylish main character in early 2000s rom-coms. I realized the secret is to wear a Victorian-style blouse with tall boots to maintain a grungy look without resembling an art teacher off-duty. Adding a chunky Chopova Lowena charm necklace is also always a smart choice.
**Look 4:** A patterned crop top with an ethereal white skirt and tall black boots.
I packed this pink gingham Prada crop top when I was feeling optimistic, and my positivity was rewarded on the one clear day when temperatures reached the high 70s! Finding the right skirt to pair with a top that's barely a top can sometimes be tricky, but the aptly named Show Stopper Midi Skirt by Free People worked flawlessly. It’s also long enough to transition into cooler weather without being too hot or too cold—I ended up adding a light trench for the evening, and everything came together beautifully.
