As a beauty editor, my role involves keeping up with trendy product launches, expert-approved techniques, and viral beauty trends. Over the past few months, during my online research (which essentially means scrolling through Instagram and TikTok), I’ve noticed a lot of excitement surrounding a range of designer fragrances: YSL's Le Vestiaire des Parfums. Translated from French, it means "the perfume wardrobe." This line features couture-inspired scents that vary from soft and skin-like to rich and bold. All of them are gender-neutral and presented in elegant glass bottles. Each fragrance is designed to represent YSL's iconic silhouettes in scent form, with some named after their clothing counterparts, such as Blouse and Tuxedo. The concept is to gather and curate each fragrance much like one would with wardrobe pieces. The only drawback was that these fragrances were not available in the U.S. until recently, which was quite disheartening for this beauty editor! Fortunately, they have finally made their debut in the U.S., with five fragrances now available for purchase at Sephora, including YSL's Babycat Eau de Parfum, which has gained immense popularity online. The remainder of the collection will be available at Sephora on November 8. In the meantime, keep reading to gain an in-depth look at five of YSL's most collectible perfumes.
Yves Saint Laurent
Babycat Eau de Parfum With Bourbon Vanilla & Suede
Fragrance notes: Black pepper essence, vanilla, suede accord
Babycat is definitely the most talked-about fragrance in the collection. I've seen countless posts raving about it for months on Instagram and TikTok. This scent was developed to reflect the essence of YSL’s famous leopard print. It’s warm, spicy, and bold, featuring top notes of pink and black pepper, middle notes of resin and saffron, and base notes of rich bourbon vanilla and suede accord. It perfectly embodies a sultry and seductive profile. I think I've found a new staple for fall and winter in my fragrance wardrobe…
Yves Saint Laurent
Muse Eau de Parfum
Fragrance notes: Orris concrete, vanilla bourbon absolute, ink accord
Fans of skin-first fragrances (like Glossier's You Eau de Parfum) or those inspired by paper (like Diptyque's L'Eau Papier Eau de Toilette) are bound to appreciate this one. It's a powdery, woody floral aroma that whispers rather than shouts. The brand describes it as "carnal" and "supple," akin to the touch of a beloved one's skin. I find it to be personal and familiar, resembling the elevated basics I love to keep in my wardrobe. Imagine a well-worn designer T-shirt. Notably, it includes ink accord, meant to reflect the flowing black lines of Yves Saint Laurent's design sketches.
Yves Saint Laurent
Lavallière Eau de Parfum With Fig & Rose
Fragrance notes: Fig accord, rose petal Isparta, musk
If sophistication had a scent, this would be it. This fruity-floral fragrance is balanced and not overly sweet due to the honeyed fig and the fresh, herbaceous scent of fig leaves. It captures the essence of one of YSL’s enduring design elements—the lavallière, or "pussycat bow," which has become almost synonymous with chic French style.
Yves Saint Laurent
Gold Eau de Parfum With Tuberose & Ylang Ylang
Fragrance notes: Bergamot essence, tuberose absolute, ylang ylang essence
If you're familiar with my preferences, you know that tuberose is one of my favorite fragrance notes. It’s warm, creamy, and smells luxe. While some might label it a "grandma" scent, I see it as elegant and timeless. Tuberose blooms at night, releasing its intoxicating aroma after dark, which is why I associate it with mystery, sensuality, and allure. The descriptor "expensive" definitely fits this fragrance. (After all, it's called Gold for a reason.) Tuberose lends a sophisticated touch, while tropical ylang-ylang adds sunny warmth. It embodies "the blaze of gold," a hue Yves Saint Laurent once described as "today's black."
Yves Saint Laurent
Saharienne Eau de Parfum With Neroli & Musk
Fragrance notes: Bergamot, neroli, and musk
This floral-citrus scent was designed to be the aromatic equivalent of YSL’s iconic Saharienne jacket. As such, it carries a sun-drenched, adventurous spirit. Bright bergamot mingles with earthy musk and smooth neroli, reminiscent of a "desert breeze." The brand aims for this fragrance to evoke individuality, confidence, adventurousness, and an "effortlessly chic attitude." Remember, the rest of the collection will be released at Sephora
