A cultural bomb exploded at the Satire Theatre: the vaudeville à la russe "Krechinsky's Wedding."
The plot of A. V. Sukhov-Kobylin's work tells of a cardsharp, Krechinsky, whose bold and ambitious scheme has stirred up the entire Moscow beau monde. The classic literary plot is already familiar to you: the young daughter of a wealthy landowner, Lidochka Muromskaya, falls in love with a seasoned gambler-con man, the charming social seducer Krechinsky. He is welcomed into the household despite the fact that the girl's father is not enthusiastic about the acquaintance. Old man Muromsky understands that the prospective son-in-law is interested not in the girl but in the enormous dowry offered for her…
Director and concept author Vladimir Gerasimov has created not simply a musical production but a large-scale cabaret show that will leave no one indifferent. Fiery songs, exquisite sets, eye-catching costumes and characters performed by talented actors and ballet dancers turn the musical into a true extravaganza of color and emotion. Throughout the narrative, the characters, together with the audience, address eternal questions: about the importance of love and money, about the boundaries of morality and decency… What awaits the audience in the final part of the show? An unexpected and unpredictable finale!
"Krechinsky's Wedding" has become not just a new production in the rich and varied repertoire of the Satire Theatre, but an unprecedented musical-dramatic show.
"The play 'Krechinsky's Wedding' touches on eternal themes; it is about the price of success, about compromises and true feelings. The author does not fear showing the essence of human nature, even when that essence appears in its darkest manifestations.
Working on the production, we aimed to create a creative rethinking of the classic work. Therefore we deviated slightly from the author's intent and changed the ending: Krechinsky will not face total ruin. We will have a happy ending," said Evgeny Gerasimov, artistic director of the Satire Theatre and People's Artist of Russia.
Guests at the premiere included: Tanya Tereshina, Sofya Doniants, Daniil Fyodorov, Viktoria Gilvarg, Lucy Pylaeva, Elena Novikova, Vladimir Khatskevich, Serdar Kombarov, Olesya Seregina, Alisa Stasyuk, Dinara Safina, Viktoria Yatsenko, Alina Kondrashova and many others.
