If There's One Trend to Take Away from Fashion Month, Let It Be This One.
Each fashion season, certain trends become widely popular, whether on the catwalks or in the streets. This could involve a specific trending piece, like Miu Miu's micro miniskirt or Prada's bucket bag, or a fashionable silhouette, such as funnel-neck trench coats and leather bombers. During the F/W 25 fashion season, the standout trend involved all things soft and furry, including shearling coats and faux-fur stoles. Throughout February and early March runways, the fur trend gained momentum, appearing as skirts at Ferragamo on model Alex Consani and as scarves at Miu Miu, where models adorned with cone bras wore furry strips around their necks, while others casually draped them on one arm. Chloé showcased a 1970s-inspired look, featuring fur-trimmed quilted jackets in mauve, a defining color of the mid-2010s. Prada presented the material in various creative ways, with one fur coat resembling the plastic wrap often found on a grandmother's sofa. Fur-trimmed blazers were featured at Valentino, while Fendi embraced its heritage by showcasing a variety of furry silhouettes, including coats, handbags, and stoles. At a re-see after Fendi's show, it was revealed that nearly all of the fall collection's fur coats were made of shearling. Designers like Altuzarra, Gucci, Ferrari, Gabriela Hearst (who, according to British Vogue, used silk to replicate fur), Simone Rocha, Tod's, Bally, Marni, Alaïa, and others also integrated the fabric in different manners. Following a subtle introduction on the S/S 25 runways last September, it was evident that designers recognized the allure of fuzzy items, setting out to include as many faux fur and shearling pieces as possible in their subsequent collections.
Outside the runways, as February and March unfolded in fashion hubs like New York and Paris, furry elements remained a focal point for attendees. Many chose vintage furs sourced from antique shops, The RealReal, or family closets. In street style, genuine new fur seemed less prevalent, with secondhand, faux-fur, or shearling options being favored. Popular choices included Prada's well-known faux-fur sleeve coats from the F/W 22 collection, Toteme shearling outerwear, and Penny Lane-inspired jackets. Given the chilly temperatures in New York City during fashion week, warm and fuzzy outerwear was essential for moving between shows.
Celebrities are also embracing this trend. This season, Hailey Bieber has been spotted in furry outerwear from Toteme, vintage Saint Laurent, and Ducie. Rihanna was seen leaving her favorite restaurant in Los Angeles, Giorgio Baldi, wearing a leather bomber jacket paired with a white fur scarf. Additionally, Kendall and Kylie Jenner started 2025 in fuzzy coats while vacationing in Aspen. Even as the weather begins to warm up, fashion's focus remains on soft, furry items, ranging from outerwear to bag charms.
