If there's just one trend to take away from Fashion Month, let it be this.

Every fashion season, certain trends achieve widespread recognition, whether on the runways or in the streets. This can be a particular trending item, such as Miu Miu's micro miniskirt or Prada's bucket bag, or a popular silhouette, like funnel-neck trenches and leather bombers. During the F/W 25 fashion season, the standout trend was anything soft and furry, ranging from shearling coats to faux-fur stoles.

In February and early March, the fur trend gained momentum on the runways, appearing as skirts at Ferragamo on model Alex Consani and as scarves at Miu Miu, where some models wearing cone bras styled furry strips around their necks while others casually draped them over an arm. At Chloé, a look inspired by the 1970s emerged, showcasing fur-trimmed quilted jackets in mauve, a color emblematic of the mid-2010s. Prada creatively incorporated the material, with some fur coats even resembling a plastic-like covering akin to your grandmother’s sofa. Fur-trimmed blazers appeared at Valentino, whereas Fendi embraced its heritage with a variety of furry silhouettes, including coats, handbags, stoles, and more. (During a follow-up viewing of Fendi's show, I learned that nearly all the fall collection fur coats were crafted from shearling.) Other designers like Altuzarra, Gucci, Ferrari, Gabriela Hearst (who, as stated by British Vogue, used silk to replicate the look of fur), Simone Rocha, Tod's, Bally, Marni, and Alaïa also integrated the fabric in various ways. Following a subtle introduction on the S/S 25 runways last September, designers recognized the growing interest in fuzzy items and sought to incorporate faux fur and shearling into their collections for the following season.

Outside the runways, as February and March unfolded in fashion hubs like New York and Paris, furry accents remained prominent among attendees. Many chose vintage furs sourced from antique shops, The RealReal, or their grandparents' wardrobes. In street style, genuine new fur was not predominant, with secondhand, faux-fur, or shearling pieces being the favored selections. Iconic options included Prada's faux-fur sleeve coats from the F/W 22 collection, Toteme shearling outerwear, and Penny Lane-style jackets. Given the chilly temperatures in New York City during fashion week, warm and cozy outerwear appeared essential for moving from show to show.

Celebrities have also embraced this trend. We’ve recently seen Hailey Bieber wearing furry outerwear from Toteme, vintage Saint Laurent, and Ducie. Rihanna was spotted at her favorite restaurant in Los Angeles, Giorgio Baldi, dressed in a leather bomber jacket paired with a white fur scarf. Meanwhile, Kendall and Kylie Jenner welcomed 2025 in fuzzy coats while on vacation in Aspen. Even as the weather begins to warm, fashion's attention remains focused on soft, furry pieces, from outer layers to bag charms.
