My 58-Year-Old Mum and I Just Returned from Zara—9 Unfashionable Items We Both Ended Up Buying.

      I’ve always maintained that my mum is a major influence on my style. At 58, with an extensive career in fashion, she has built a wardrobe that perfectly combines timeless investment pieces—some of which she has owned for over 30 years—with high-street finds that look far more luxurious than their prices suggest. She has a clear sense of what she prefers, remains open to new ideas, consistently presents a polished appearance without seeming overdone, and confidently dismisses trends that don’t suit her body or taste. In contrast, I tend to be easily influenced by new arrivals that catch my attention and am still discovering what my “true” style is. As I approach 30 (not quite there yet!), I’m beginning to feel more confident in my selections, but that doesn’t stop me from consulting my mum about most of my purchases. Even my boyfriend has been known to do the same!
