      There's a suitable time and setting for classic black and reliable white shoes, but I would argue that early autumn is not one of them. As the season changes, there's a desire for deeper, more luxurious hues. It's an ideal time to reintroduce those wardrobe staples that were stored away during the summer, and for me, the first choice is navy trousers.

      More intriguing than your usual black pair, but somewhat more challenging to style, navy trousers have had me contemplating their ideal footwear match for autumn. This week, Kaia Gerber provided the solution I hadn't realized I needed. Wearing ankle-length navy trousers, she paired them not with black or white, but with a rich burgundy shoe—a combination so stylish that I couldn't believe I had missed it.

      Burgundy and navy complement each other beautifully, creating a strong autumn-inspired palette that appears polished without being too harsh. While black can weigh down navy, and white may clash with its richness, burgundy adds balance—it enhances the look, boosting navy while preserving an effortless vibe. Gerber completed her outfit with a short-sleeved white blouse, dark sunglasses, and a brown knit draped over her shoulders.
