Byredo's latest eye shadow palette is the makeup counterpart to the renowned Bibliothèque fragrance.
Byredo, renowned for its signature fragrances, stylish candles, and contemporary makeup range, has recently unveiled a new eye shadow palette. However, this isn’t just an ordinary eye shadow palette. It was designed by Lucia Pica, an Italian makeup artist and former global creative makeup and color designer for Chanel, who is currently the creative image and makeup collaborator for Byredo. Aptly titled Bibliophilia, this limited-edition palette draws inspiration from "the sensory and emotional ambiance of a library," capturing the "tactile experience of paper and pigment, shadow and light" through its color selection.
This marks not the first time Byredo has introduced a remarkable beauty product that pays tribute to a passion for literature. The beloved Bibliothèque Eau de Parfum has enjoyed cult status for many years. Infused with notes of plum, cinnamon, leather, violet, birchwood, patchouli, and vanilla, it evokes "A world of aged books, the aroma of their leather-bound pages arranged upon dark wood shelves." As a beauty editor with a love for literature, this new makeup counterpart feels like a dream, especially fitting for the fall season, which often emphasizes academic-inspired styles. Ahead, you can view this stylish new eye shadow palette, but be warned: it may tempt you to spend hours nestled in a snug corner of a dim library, flipping through the pages of well-loved books.
Each of the 18 shades was inspired by the environment of a library, "a place where senses widen, and narratives unfold." The palette features soft gold reminiscent of the gilded spines of vintage book covers, alongside parchment and beige that mirror the texture of aged paper. It includes inky burgundy and rich brown tones as well. With three finishes—matte, satin, and metallic—the shades offer flexibility to create textured, layered looks.
I was fortunate enough to test the palette prior to its release and found the pressed powders to be silky and luxurious, crafted to blend "as seamlessly as turning a page." They can be easily sheered for a subtle touch of color or built up for a more vibrant appearance. In the words of the brand, "With the ease of a page turning, the ultra-sensorial formula melts into the skin … enabling layered looks that transition from understated elegance to bold expression."
The 18 luxurious shades are housed in Byredo's signature mirrored steel packaging, decorated with an elegant paper motif. The brand envisions it as a collector's item (and I believe it certainly has that appeal). They also aim for it to serve as a "portal—inviting you to turn through a library of colors, where every shade narrates a tale." The emphasis of this product is on creativity, imagination, and experimentation. "Bibliophilia becomes your sanctuary, fostering your personality and creativity: a space you can enter, dream, and lose yourself in, while providing a sense of warm intimacy and openness," Pica stated in a press release.
Please note, this eye shadow palette is available only for a limited time. Given its chic design, carefully selected shades, and luxurious textures, I doubt it will remain in stock for long. In my opinion, it’s one of those rare items with an immediate sellout likelihood.
