I Want to Fragrance Delightfully—These 13 Perfumes Make Me Aroma Like a High-End French Bakery
I have a penchant for sweet treats (my chocolate stash dreads my mid-afternoon visits), so it’s only natural that I’m drawn to gourmand fragrances. However, many of them can lean a bit too sweet for my tastes. I adore vanilla perfumes, yet merely contemplating some sugary or fruity scents can trigger a migraine. Thankfully, I believe I’ve found the perfect balance in gourmand fragrances, which is almond perfumes. Whether it’s created to evoke the aroma of a warm almond croissant fresh from the oven in a patisserie, or to impart a smooth, nutty essence to floral scents, almond serves as an unexpected gourmand element in some of my current favorites. Just as pistachio was trending last year, we’re now witnessing a rise in savory gourmand scents like almond, which offers a hint of sweetness without crossing into headache-inducing territory.
“What I appreciate most about almond is its dual nature. On one side, it embodies a soft, rounded, almost nostalgic feel; it’s comforting, familiar, and somewhat childlike,” states David Benedek, founder and creative director of BDK Parfums. Consider cherry bakewells, marzipan candies, and sugared almonds. “Conversely, it can also have a deeply sensual and addictive quality,” he adds. “Almond adds depth and warmth to a fragrance, while also introducing an element of mystery that enhances the scent's allure, making it more magnetic without being overt.” Unbeknownst to me, I’ve been accumulating almond perfumes in my collection over the past year, and each is as delightful and surprising as the last. Continue reading for my top almond perfume recommendations.
**Best Almond Perfumes 2025**
1. **Parfums de Marly Valaya Exclusif**
Key notes: Almond, bergamot, mandarin, orange blossom, white flowers, powdery accord, akigalawood, sandalwood, ambroxan, vanilla.
I can’t find the words to fully express my admiration for this fragrance, but I'll attempt to convey how much I adore this Parfums de Marly perfume. It evokes the sensation of indulging in an almond croissant while wrapped in luxurious sheets at a five-star hotel, with a silver platter of sugared almonds nearby. The room is filled with white flowers, and a gentle spring breeze flows through an open window. It’s simply breathtaking. The original Valaya is ethereal and airy, but the inclusion of a silky almond note in Valaya Exclusif elevates it to an even more enticing, creamy, and long-lasting scent on the skin. It’s ideal for anyone seeking an almond perfume that remains light, powdery, and cloud-like without drifting too far into gourmand territory. It’s possibly one of the best perfumes I own.
2. **Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia**
Key notes: Star anise, Italian bergamot, Italian orange, green almonds, ylang-ylang, vanilla, cedarwood, tolu balsam, musk.
This Acqua di Parma fragrance is so delectable that it brings me joy whenever I spray it. It resembles a buttery almond pastry enriched with ribbons of chocolate, orange, and vanilla. However, being Acqua di Parma, it achieves a smoothness instead of being overly sweet, enhanced with zesty and woody nuances. As part of the Blu Mediterraneo collection, it celebrates Italy's coastlines, and this scent specifically honors almonds—a key ingredient in Sicily. The combination of citrus, vanilla, and cedarwood gives it the sensation of savoring a slice of almond cake beneath the sun-dappled shade of a Sicilian orange grove. Truly delicious.
3. **L'Occitane Almond Delightful Hair & Body Mist**
Key notes: Bergamot, freesia, vanilla, hawthorn, almond, amber, musk, tonka bean.
You likely already recognize and appreciate the sought-after body oil and shower oil from L'Occitane's renowned Almond body collection, known for its divine almond fragrance. You'll be pleased to know that the collection has expanded to include a hair and body mist bearing the same beloved almond scent. To me, this scent is slightly sweeter than the body care line's fragrance (so if you're familiar with and fond of the classic scent, anticipate a marginally sweeter version). It’s a fantastic body mist to spritz on after a shower, or layer with the Almond Shower Oil (£22) and Almond Body Oil (£40) for a delicate almond fragrance that lingers throughout the day.
4. **Glossier You Rêve**
Key notes: Buttercream, plum butter, toasted almond, iris, sandalwood, ambrox, ambrette.
If you enjoy the classic Glossier You perfume and love the scent of almonds, then You'll adore the new counterpart, You Rêve. Both nutty and jammy, it resembles cutting
