I reside in Paris and New York, and I would wear these fashionable fall choices in both cities.
Melanie Masarin serves as a Who What Wear Editor in residence, is the founder and CEO of Ghia, authors the Substack newsletter Night Shade, which details her experiences as a founder, explores treasure hunting, fashion insights, and culinary notes, and is also the writer of the upcoming cookbook, Riviera. After spending months in printed t-shirts and sarongs, I'm thrilled to return to the rhythm of New York. September has a way of feeling like a homecoming—both physically and emotionally. It embodies the comfort of familiarity. I mourn summer for a few days, but then my routine greets me anew. My cozy pillows, the neglected favorite t-shirts in my closet, the joy of being home, and sipping coffee from my cherished mug all welcome me back. My cashmere sweaters have been patiently waiting in my closet, like old friends ready to reconnect. I'm eager to apply a hair mask and dress up again, but not in the theatrical way of spring. I prefer "soft pants" for a bike ride from familiar places to beloved ones, along with layers that provide comfort during the busiest times of the year. These boots—sans tights—are made for quick walking. My mixed metal jewelry clinks softly, adding a hint of sparkle over the suede and layers. Here’s everything on my wishlist for this pre-fall season.
I adore the utilitarian rope ties and warm bronze color of this jacket, and Sézane excels at making items available at approachable prices.
**Sapir Bachar Wave Necklace**
I fell in love with this necklace two years ago and was thrilled to rediscover it at home last week, ready for another season of wearing it.
**Chan Luu Techno Taffeta Barrel Pant in Bronze**
I wore these in pistachio throughout the summer and just purchased a darker version to carry me into fall. The softly shiny fabric is stunning, and they are incredibly durable.
**Jenni Kayne Burke Cashmere Polo Sweater**
The cashmere feels so luxurious, and I enjoy layering the polo for a more sophisticated appearance.
**Crown Affair The Overnight Repair Serum Treatment for Dry, Damaged Hair**
Another success from Crown Affair. This product truly delivers on its promises, especially following a summer filled with salt and sun exposure.
**Gucci New Sol GG Canvas Clogs**
After several months of wearing very flat shoes, these are both fun and comfortable.
**Currently Wearing:** Comme Si The Silk Bias Pants ($385); Carolina Bucci Soho Downtown Necklace ($6130); Co Small Leather Clutch ($775); The Row Liisa Kitten Heels ($990)
**Co Large Leather Clutch in Burgundy**
I love adding sophistication to casual outfits with a clutch. Over the years, I’ve collected smaller white and espresso versions, but my favorite this fall is the larger red one. It’s spacious enough to hold my phone and a couple of cans of Ghia.
**La Bonne Brosse N.01 the Small Universal Hair Brush**
September is about enhancing and cherishing my routines. They offer a helpful quiz to determine which brush suits you best.
**Ossou Noon Jean in Dusk Wash**
I’m enamored with the hardware on these beautiful pants, which make my legs appear quite long. I’ll be living in these for the foreseeable future.
**Róhe Oversized Checked Cotton-Flannel Shirt**
I adore this brand and how thick yet delicate this shirt feels.
**Comme Si The Silk Bias Pant**
I confess to having them in three colors, but the dark brown ones are my most frequently worn. They are strikingly flattering and work well for both office days and hot dates.
**Co Leather Over-the-Knee Boots**
Although it’s early in the season, I missed out on these last year! I’m eager for flat boots paired with pencil skirts.
**Liffner Belted Bucket Bag Large in Cream**
The cream leather is stunning, and this bag is spacious enough for my laptop and much more.
**Tory Burch Reva Ballet in Red**
What could be more nostalgic than a brand-new pair of Tory Burch Revas?
**Tibi Crispy Nylon Wilt Pull on Jogger**
These joggers are my most-worn item this September. I love the eggplant hue and the ankle elastic that reveals a bit of my feet.
This is the most luxurious long-sleeve shirt—the fabric is thick yet very flattering. I own it in navy and enjoy pairing it with browns, reds, and denim.
I continuously reach for my Attersee items, and this comfy bag will be no exception.
**Nour Hammour Briar Jacket**
I appreciate the cinched waist and cropped design. It has a distinct '90s vibe while still being elegant.
