After bidding farewell to summer at our delightful supper club at Templeton Garden’s Pippin’s restaurant, I certainly am, and I can't wait for some time away from parenting to refresh my wardrobe for the new season—not ashamed to say so! In anticipation of my ultimate fashion moment, I’m taking time to consider my choices, reflecting on what I wear regularly as autumn approaches and how my style is shifting for the season. This allows me to focus on any new purchases as well as any dry-cleaning, repairs, or alterations I need, maximizing what I already own and filling only the most necessary gaps. 1: I CAN'T STOP RAVING ABOUT: STRETCHY BOOTS
If you’ve been following this newsletter for a while, you'll know about my ongoing challenge with knee-high boots. While I have small feet, my thick calves make it difficult for knee-highs to fit well. I found one leather, zip-up pair that works (thanks again to Realm), but generally, I tend to gravitate towards: stretchy suede-and-leather pull-on boots. The current selection is much more stylish than when this type of hybrid leather first appeared, and my collection features styles from brands like Whistles, Me+Em, and Charles & Keith, as well as Prada, L’Autre Chose (a now-defunct French label that was exceptional), and Dora Teymur. If there's a chic stretchy knee-high boot out there, I’ll track it down. I appreciate that they provide a sleek look for many outfits, pairing well with midi skirts and even under trousers.

2: UNDER THE RADAR: SKIRTS AND SHIRTS

Shh! Keep it between us—right now, I'm all about one specific outfit combination: skirts paired with shirts. There’s a certain maturity and polish that comes with wearing separates, and I think it allows for a bit more personality in an assembled outfit. This combo is perfect for those transitional days of early autumn when you can match a wool skirt with sandals, or a flouncy summer skirt with stylish knee-high boots (now you know where I find mine!). Typically "masculine" shirts balance out the femininity of a skirt, offering a smart option for office days. I recently snagged a lovely pink shirt from COS and I'm eyeing a skirt from Róhe. I’m confident both would be worn frequently in this style, as well as with other separates like jeans (for the shirt) and knits (for the skirt). Here are a few examples I’ve worn recently: a banana-print set from Farm Rio, a Prada skirt with a COS shirt, and an M&S Collection skirt with a Soeur shirt.
