This year, let's just say her performance topped her all-time highlights, not only because the supermodel looked stunning on the runway while Madison Beer sang "Make You Mine" sultrily in the background, surrounded by fan dancers. Her look also made a bold statement regarding the future of lingerie in 2025—without Hadid needing to utter a single word. The message was clear: Thongs, it's time to step aside. Boy shorts are making a comeback.
After years of thong dominance, it would take something significant to challenge their status, but Hadid opening the show in hot-pink lace boy shorts might just be enough to make an impact. Accompanying the "outdated" lingerie trend, she wore a matching longline bra embellished with tiny rhinestones, another often-overlooked item in the world of undergarments, along with a voluminous pink floral cape that flowed behind her throughout her walk. To finish off the look, she walked in strappy pink heeled sandals.
She wasn't the only model at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show to swap usual thongs for boy shorts. Alex Consani and Adriana Lima also sported boy shorts on the runway. Furthermore, Hadid's second ensemble also skipped the no-lines bottoms; instead, she wore a white corset one-piece with flowy attached shorts that matched her oversized wings. A coincidence? We think not.
While thongs will never be completely "out" due to their practicality, could boy shorts return to challenge them in 2025? All indications suggest yes.
