Meet Verona Farrell, the internet's cool girl who's turning list-making into the hottest trend this winter.
Welcome to the Gen Z Mood, where I—Who What Wear UK's 27-year-old social media editor—share my monthly mood updates along with the most exciting finds I've encountered while scrolling. I'm also on the lookout for budget-friendly methods to shop for trends, and you're invited to join me. The Mood: Internet Icons.
(Image credit: @secondhandhuns) I'm a fan of lists. Whether it’s my to-do list for the week, a carefully curated wish list of vintage items I dream of owning, or the winter watch list I’m eager to check off this season, I believe there’s value in writing down what’s on your mind. This is something I have in common with Internet personality and the inspiration behind this month’s Gen Z mood, Verona Farrell.
For those who are frequently online, her name may ring a bell. But for those who aren't familiar with TikTok, let me fill you in—this columnist, street-style observer, and newly minted Internet icon has revitalized the concept of lists in recent months with her innovative content format, generating millions of views. Whether she’s enumerating "rock and roll items," "low-effort, high-impact gift ideas," or "things that define glamour," her followers and fashion peers are hanging on her every word.
(Image credit: @secondhandhuns) After five years in fashion, this content creator knows how to seize opportunities. Fashion is truly her first language; from sharing upcycling tips before the pandemic to showcasing her predominantly vintage wardrobe online, Verona has been building her community for quite some time. Regardless of the style capital she's representing—currently London, previously Stockholm, and before that, Paris—she always shares the hottest insights.
(Image credit: @secondhandhuns) Despite her increased profile over the summer, Verona is no stranger to going viral. She initiated her street-style series in 2023 and was among the first creators to introduce a "What people are wearing in..." video format through her @secondhandhuns account, which boasts over 800,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram and has served as a major source of style inspiration for many on social media for years.
(Image credit: @secondhandhuns) Recently, Verona relocated to London and enrolled in Faber & Faber’s writing course (very Carrie Bradshaw vibes), so for this month’s Gen Z Mood, I caught up with her to ask some burning questions from her comment section. We discussed London versus Scandi style, the gifting season, and, of course, the art of crafting a solid list. Scroll down for her latest wish list and more.
Do you have a trend prediction for winter?
I'm really into skinny scarves right now; not knitted ones, but silk, skinny scarves—like long pieces of fabric. I first spotted them in Spain, where all the Spanish girls were donning silk scarves around their necks and also tying them in their hair. Pair that with a big jacket! Super chic.
What's your current favorite accessory?
It's actually in my bag. It's a claw clip, but not a typical one; it has this rosette detail. It’s from Whistles. I think any kind of unique hair clip is really cool. I'm into a substantial clip as an accessory alongside big hoops; I borrowed that idea from this girl, Isabella Frandsen, in Copenhagen.
If you were embodying a fictional character this season, who would it be?
I would say Kate Hudson’s character in Almost Famous; I admire her outlook on life. She’s fabulous—her style and curly hair are everything. She’s free-spirited, and her style reflects that.

Oh, absolutely, a Gucci Jackie bag. A couple of seasons ago, there was a bright red version that I went to see. The moment I laid eyes on it, I thought, "Oh no, I need that." While everyone seems to be into burgundy lately, that bright red is so striking. One day, I’ll have that red Jackie bag from the spring/summer 2025 collection.
What’s your favorite place to shop for basics?
I love COS and American Vintage for knits, but there’s also a Scandinavian brand called Gem Wear that offers fantastic basics.
What book are you currently reading?
Yes. Still Life by Sarah Winman—it's one of the best books I've ever read. It's like a warm hug, very cozy.
