The much-awaited collaboration between H&M and Glenn Martens has finally arrived—shop now before it sells out!
Glenn Martens, the creative director for Y/Project, Diesel, and now Maison Margiela, has collaborated with H&M to release a much-anticipated new collection. According to the press release, "The H&M Glenn Martens collection reinterprets best sellers from the H&M archive along with key elements from Martens’s design background into new classics. The collection features manipulated denim, braided and deconstructed knits, delicately printed dresses, wired outerwear, reinvented trench coats, theatrical jewelry, hip-high boots, and shape-shifting bags, all with a nod to British heritage style." Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M's creative advisor and head of womenswear design, remarked, "Our primary inspiration was everything we observed that Glenn produced at Y/Project," in celebration of the launch.
When asked to describe the collection, Martens stated, "I would say it’s fun. It’s very absurd and playful with a bit of humor. It’s versatile and adjustable to your personality." He mentioned that one of his favorite items is the shoulder bag. "You can twist it," he shared. "You can entirely flip it around and flatten it. It’s like a little sculpture." Later that evening, at the launch party hosted at the historic Skinners' Hall in London, I talked with Cynthia Erivo, who wore the Wool-Blend Coat and Printed Satin Dress. "I've been into slip dresses lately. They’re what I usually wear during my concerts—slip dresses, no shoes," she noted. "I noticed this dress and thought it felt incredibly sexy. I appreciate that the straps are somewhat invisible and playful, with all the lace and delicate details. I also wanted something with a bit of structure, which is why the coat was perfect; it has a great weight to it. I’ve got a blend of feminine and masculine styles."
